When Georgia Football

emoji_events [7]
Dec 10, 2021, 8:34 AM

fan comes on a Clemson message board.. it’s beyond obvious how much they wish they could taste CLEMSON’s success. No matter how a smelly-mutt tries to spin it.. they would give up their lil doggy nuts for 3 National Championships and maybe would for just 1 recent win over Bama. We may be slightly down (according to Clemson standards) but Clemson is still just better in the modern football era~

Okay....I'll bite.

No doubt UGA fans are envious of Clemson for their recent success. It is undeniable that Clemson has had a more successful football program. It is also true that Clemson has benefitted from playing in the ACC. A number of SEC teams are down this year (as you noted, is Clemson) but do you doubt the success UGA, Florida, Auburn, LSU, Bama, and probably Texas A&M would have most years if they navigated an ACC schedule? I only wish UGA played a conference championship against North Carolina or Pitt instead of Bama or LSU.

Here's what we know, 2018 season, riding a true fresh. phenom, Clemson crushed Alabama. Same QB the following year, and Clemson got trucked by LSU in the final. 2020, same phenom QB, and Clemson got boat raced in the semi finals. This year, didn't even win their division and their all-time great DC is moving on. Now, that doesn't suggest that Clemson's run is over but it does show things don't seem to be moving in the right direction. We'll see how it all plays out.

Y’all crushed that mighty SEC east schedule with what was Georgia’s best team perhaps ever. Ironically it was a down-trodden middle of the pack ACC team that actually played you toe to toe. If DJ doesn’t gift y’all with a pick 6.. we may still be playing in a 3 to 3 overtime game still. When dogs come on our board is does show seem like they’re more concerned with a down Clemson team than discussing dog football on their own board.

Re: more like a bark than a bite..

If DJ doesn't "gift" the pick 6, Kirby punches the ball in at the end of the game and it's still 10-3.

No Dabo keep the game very close with a QB that clearly has some struggles against a poorly coach team with more talent than any other team out there . Dumbfounding how a fan base can think that a coach is good that can not win a championship with all the talent , Any other coach would have won it all by now .
Kirby is nothing more than a great recruiter , nothing against him as I’m sure he is great guy . Just not a good coach !

Georgia has been getting trucked by EVERYONE

Dec 10, 2021, 9:05 AM

for the past 40 years.... However, this is georgia's year. Georgia rolled over the like they were supposed to in the SEC game to ensure that they get to play Alabama again in the championship game. Alabama will take a dive and gift georgia another championship. You're welcome.

"George Bush, we are reliably informed by the media, has the IQ of a moron, though how he matriculated from Yale and Harvard or flew an F-106 will remain an unexplained mystery. Doubtless his father bribed the airplane to fly itself."

True, if Clemson losing by 17 to LSU is getting trucked,

Dec 10, 2021, 11:55 AM

then UGA losing by 17 to Alabama is definitely getting trucked. And AF was basically saying that with the same QB in 2019 and 2020, Clemson should have been just as good as 2018. The 2018 defense was maybe the best ever at Clemson with 3 DL players selected in the 1st round of the 2019 NFL draft, a DB in the 2nd, and another DE in the 4th. To say that Clemson should have been just as good the next 2 seasons with the same QB is just a generalization to fit his narrative. So UGA should be just as good next year with JT Daniels and/or Stetson Bennett if he returns.

2022 purple level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link

Re: True, if Clemson losing by 17 to LSU is getting trucked,

Dec 10, 2021, 12:32 PM

Yes, UGA has been trucked by Bama.

I'm saying that when TL and Clemson won the natty in 2018, particularly the way they won it, no one thought it was the last title TL would win at Clemson. What was Clemson's preseason rank in the following seasons? 2019 #1. 2020 #1. 2021 #2. What were the results? Loss in finals, loss in semifinals, 2 conference losses and not even the division.

military_donation.jpg flag link

We could keep doing this

Dec 10, 2021, 1:10 PM

So finished #2 in 2019 and #4 in 2020, not much drop. And we didn't have that QB you mentioned for 2021. Last year UGA was preseason #4 and finished #7. And Jake Fromm took UGA to the CFP championship game in 2017, UGA was preseason #3 in 2018, didn't make the playoffs, and lost the Sugar Bowl to Texas. And in 2019 with a preseason #3 rank and Fromm, UGA didn't make the playoffs after losing by 27 to the LSU team that "trucked" Clemson by 17.

Re: We could keep doing this

Dec 10, 2021, 5:11 PM

You are making a comparison between Clemson and Georgia. I am not. I am commenting on what one could assume is a downward trend for Clemson. Yes, you had a new QB in 2021, but look at what the preseason hype and expectatons were. Clemson went in to this season as a national title favorite.

Re: When Georgia Football

Dec 10, 2021, 9:07 AM

Sure, but you come from the SEC E and the only thing propping up that SOS is the nostalgia of their name.

Auburn, Tenn, and FL have done nothing of significance for a decade. Sure they are in the SEC and get to lose to UGA, Bama, and Texas A & M, but they havent done anything noteworthy since Newton, Clawson, and Tebow.

Kentucky, Vandy, and U of Sc are historical doormats.

Yes, Alabama and LSU for 1 season have been absolutely dominate for quite some time now but the teams that lose to them don't deserve that credit.

AF, why point to how much success you ‘mighty sec teams’

[1]
Dec 10, 2021, 9:40 AM

would have in the ACC? Let’s talk about post season, where (as you would lead one to believe) the playing field is leveled.

We beat your flagship - and truly the REAL reason everyone thinks the sec is king - and we have beaten them as many times as they have beaten us. What is your record against Bama in the last four games?

As for ‘beating up’ on a weak ACC, our record in the CFP is 6-4, against the top 4 teams in the nation. I suppose being 1-1 isn’t too shabby (for Georgia, anyway). Well, you’re in the CFP again (albeit after LOSING to Bama in Atlanta, again), so we shall see how it goes.

As for me and my UofM wife….. GO BLUE!!!!

I'm pretty sure I acknoweldged Clemson's success. Are you disputing there is a difference between the SEC and ACC? Want to check head to head games between the two conferences?

military_donation.jpg flag link

Re: AF, why point to how much success you ‘mighty sec teams’

Dec 10, 2021, 10:58 AM

At times there is parity, but at the moment SEC is stronger. The strength is in the west. The SEC east (UGA excluded) this year is no better than ACC.
The SEC often sends two teams to playoff. Two teams going in negates your perceived disadvantage. Regardless of schedule, you still have to beat Bama. Until that happens, Why grumble?

flag link

Re: AF, why point to how much success you ‘mighty sec teams’

Dec 10, 2021, 11:03 AM

How do you figure the SEC "often" gets two teams into the playoff? This is the 8th year of the playoff and only the second time two SEC teams have been in. The other was following the 2017 season.

military_donation.jpg flag link

No doubt in my mind that the SEC has been, and still is, the

[1]
Dec 10, 2021, 11:05 AM

predominant conference in college football, from at least the start of the BCS era to now.

Butt, in the final analysis, you have to ride on your own wheels to get where you want to go. The SEC success means no more to Georgia than the ACC weakness does to Clemson, once you get in that Playoff field.

Georgia has a team that SHOULD be capable of winning it all this year. Butt, to do that, at some point Kirby Smart has got to get out of his own way. Of all the former Saban assistants who are now head coaches, Kirby seems to be shackled by the Saban mystique more than any other.

I really think it is going to take your football team putting Kirby on THEIR shoulders and carrying him across the threshold, to finally beat Saban. They will have to overcome his self-doubt, and have some of those Herschel Walker or Lindsay Scott type of moments. Maybe even a Kick Six type of moment.

Only thing I know is, business as HAS been normal for you all against Bama ain't going to get it done.

And, make no mistake. If you underestimate The Fighting Khakis, you won't even GET your repeat shot at Bama. Meechigan this year is a worthy opponent.

2022 orange level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link

Re: AF, why point to how much success you ‘mighty sec teams’

Dec 10, 2021, 12:23 PM

I do not dispute that the top team in the sec is great. Nor do I defend the ACC, or point to the presence of quite a few weak sisters in the sec. My point was HOW WE have performed against top ranked opponents as compared to how UGA has performed against top ranked opponents.

But, alas, just like the fans of our feathered in state rival, you do not want to stand on YOUR record; but rather ride the coat tails of Alabama and the thirteen dwarfs.

flag link

Re: When Georgia Football

Dec 10, 2021, 9:10 AM

I don't think Dabo or Kirby would be as successful elsewhere.

Dabo was a lot of lighting striking at the perfect time and who knows if Kirby would have the same passion not at his alma matter. Had Rhict had a slighty better season Kirby would have ended up at U of SC and no telling if UGA would have wanted him after he couldnt fix that sess pool.

While they are both look like top 5 coaches I think a lot goes into it being the perfect situation for themselves.

flag link

Re: When Georgia Football

Dec 10, 2021, 10:57 AM

Kirby is a great recruiter. I think criticism of his game-day coaching and QB development is valid at this point. As for Dabo, we're about to find out a whole lot more about him. Real or perceived, his success has been tied to the arrival of Brent Venables. We'll see if Dabo can keep it going without him.

I think Mark Richt was on his way out. It was pretty clear (just look at his record against ranked teams from the first half of his UGA career to the last half) that Richt had done what he was going to do. Under him, UGA stopped beating ranked teams and in many cases, stopped even being competitive.

As for this year, despite the SECCG gut-punch, I haven't written off the Dawgs. I think they beat Michigan and think they can beat Bama.

Right did not have the admin support Kirby has. UGA was still operating in the Kemp scandal shadow. There was not an all out commitment from Admin to win. When Kirby was hired, the admin put the blinders on. They are giving him the same rules to play by that Saban has. None.

Didn't doubt he was a great recruiter. A lot of that goes to his passion as an alumni and the blank check UGA writes him for his recruiting budgets. Things he wouldn't have things gone down slightly different and he ended up at U of SC.

Kirby's biggest fault is loyalty to a QB and QB room management.
