Glad we won, BUT will we ever have lights-out DEFENSE again?

Sep 8, 2012, 4:16 PM

I really want to see an improved defense. I LOVE the offense. It might be the best Clemson offense ever. But our defense is not great. "Bend, don't break" sounds good. But I remember the Clemson defenses that didn't bend or break.

Will we ever see that again or have offenses just gotten too sophisticated?

Serious question.

I love my Tigers. Win or lose. I am ALL IN ALL THE TIME. GO TIGERS!

on defense this season. There were just too many questin marks not to. Factor in what B. Venables said during practice about the lack of depth and none of some of the struggles we're saying on that side of the ball should come as a surprise.

And when I made the remark about realistic fan I meant no offense to you specifically.

Good grief. I truly needed to proofread that post!!! Point

I was trying to make is that we knew we would probably have some soft spots on defense

Understand about this season. BUT what about future seasons

We have not had a great defense like that in years.
AND we are not even close now.
I just want to know if it is possible to have those great defenses in this era of football.

Clemson has a tradition of great defenses. I think that is every Clemson fan's expectation. AND I would think we would be recruiting great defensive players year in and year out.

We knew coming into this year that our D would struggle

Sep 8, 2012, 4:23 PM

We have youth and a lack of depth at DE and DB positions. The LB position is attacking more but still need to improve, once again that is going to take some time. This D is a work in progress and we won't see a truly dominate Clemson D again until maybe 2013-14 with the DL heavy recruiting class coming in.

Good post. Thanks. Can't wait until 2013 & 2014 & 2015

All I want is to see the Defense tackling correctly. They began that mess they did last year of tackling at the shoulders. Just seemed discipline and technique was off, unlike the Auburn game where they were dialed in. The players will see the tapes, notice it, and I'm betting that the Coaches will get that mess fixed quick.

When did coaches stop teaching kids how to tackle?

Sep 8, 2012, 4:40 PM

I see it from my sons' middle school and JV games through varsity and college. No one knows how to tackle any more. And defenders are so focused on going for the ball, they forget about the offensive player carrying the ball.

True! If we could only wrap up on tackles and our secondary needs alot of work. swarm to the football.

Yes, some this year, and a lot in the next several years.***
