They said it rained for several days in San Diego and the field did not thoroughly dry out.

First time that a football game ever played on this field or so they said when the game began!

Improper drainage. Most modern day fields can take massive amounts of rain and be ready to play on in just a few hours. Maybe they don't worry about drainage since they don't get much rain.

It’s what can happen when you try to play football at a baseball stadium; the infield isn’t designed to drain like the outfield.

agree, FB in a baseball venue is a fail IMO

I just don't get the appeal.

My assumption is that they are playing at Petco versus the new Snapdragon/SDSU stadium because of the additional revenue for the city by playing downtown.

Petco is a great baseball stadium but sucks for football games (and concerts).

That said, the surrounding Gaslamp area has much better hotel, dining, and nightlife options than in Mission Valley by Snapdragon. The city will bring in more cash having people in bars/restaurants before and after the game than tailgating in a parking lot.

It did rain pretty hard here yesterday afternoon through the night and it was cloudy today so the sun didn’t dry out the field.

For some reason the Holiday Bowl always seems to have crappy weather (for SD). But it was 80 degrees last weekend, so I doubt we’ll get any sympathy. :)

Holiday Bowl moved to Petco Park this year***
