Yobed, car expert:

May 16, 2022, 1:50 PM

Older 4 runner. Hood was lifted and the liner thing or whatever that is (affixed to the underside of the hood) has come free. So free that it's all willy-nilly and sticking to the engine some.

It's some kind of grayish felt-like material that's so thin you can see through it. Looks like the original design was for that stuff to get pinned to some white foam-like material and it's torn away from the little plastic push pins.

My questions:
Cut it out and F it?
Cut it out and replace it?
Use staple gun to rig it back somehow?
F it and let nature run it's course?

Also, what is this even for....like what does it accomplish?

It’s has flame retardant and repellants applied to it.

Depends on how old the 4runner is.

May 16, 2022, 1:56 PM

If its old, I probably wouldn't.

what's the hood look like?

May 16, 2022, 2:01 PM

if the paint's farked, just roll wid it

if it's still in good shape, replace it

Meh

It's 18 years old. And the hood looks about like what you'd expect it to.

Time to bling out the 4Runner now? Already got the fake

Escalade side vents mounted up and looking fresh?

IMO something like this is just a little too busy, a mismatching body kit would be killer though

Serves two purposes

May 16, 2022, 2:04 PM

1) reduces noise in the car from the engine

2) dissipates heat so the paint on the hood doesn’t get as baked.

If the paint is iffy and you don’t think it’s noisier, don’t sweat it.

If paint looks good or noise bothers you, strip the old stuff off and put some reflective generic dynamat on the underside of the hood. Peel and stick.

Thx. At least cut it out so it's not on the engine or

May 16, 2022, 2:07 PM

F it let it be?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Sure, cut it out. Your mechanic will thank you***
