What's the feel for the Alliance?

Aug 28, 2021, 4:21 PM

Sorry if this has been asked and I missed it .Just haven't had time this week till now to get on Tigernet .From what little I have read this alliance between the ACC, B 10 and P 12 is forward thinking you rarely see in college athletes. Most of the time university AD s just seem to react to events and then make hasty decisions. Seems the 3 conferences have been talking for awhile now and are
laying out ideas where this will go in the future. My honest feeling is that at one time I would have been ok with Clemson joining the SEC but not anymore .Seems like old thinking to me. Clemson will always have some historical ties to teams like Alabama and Auburn but it's time to move on to a new structure for college football and one that's not driven purely by the SEC , which has been at the forefront of turning college football into a miniature NFL.I am not naive enough to think the days of college football like it was in the 70s is coming back and it's a business that's getting bigger but this alliance might help preserve some of the things that make college football unique. Just mho. What do you think ?

They better not be counting on the base at Alduron.

I think the alliance is brilliant.

I just hope they remember what the SEC is about and what they tried to do by expanding. One day, the SEC will want in and I hope the alliance tells them to pound sand.

In historical terms Auburn is like Ma and Alabama is like PA to Clemson.I remember back in the 70s thinking it would be great to be just a little like Alabama. But now Clemson is full grown and has to look out for itself and it's interests .I don't feel the kinship with SEC schools to the degree I did in the 70s and 80s. A huge plus to me is that the universities of the ACC , B 10 and P 12 conferences have similar academic standards and don't seem to be racing to the bottom like the SEC .I hope Texas doesn't end up with buyers remorse , not that I am going to lose any sleep over the fate of Texas or Oklahoma.

Spot on. The alliance is a response to a serious attack on CFB as we know it.

What did the SEC try to do....get more of their teams into the playoffs? You think it's smart for conference commissioners to vote against playoff expansion? Vote against their own self interests by imiting teams from their respective conferences from getting in? You don't think the Pac 12 Commissioner has come to the realization that with the current 4 teams system his conference has little chance of getting anyone in? And they'll do this just to keep an extra SEC team out? That makes no sense. Here's how this is going to play out. The "Alliance" can choose not to expand the playoffs. With the addition of Texas and Oklahoma, this will mean that instead of the SEC getting 3 teams into a tourny of 8, most years they will get 2 into the current structure...or 50% of the slots.
