What’s rich to me…

emoji_events [23]
Sep 27, 2021, 4:40 PM

What’s rich to me is hearing from countless fans that “we deserve better from Dabo and the team.” Yet that’s exactly why our nation is marching headlong of a cliff financially. We have become an entitlement society, and that’s a bad thing. Why do we fans deserve better? It’s being said frequently that “we deserve better because Dabo makes $9 million a year and Tony Elliott makes $2 million. Those are huge salaries indeed. Yet how much of it do we pay? Most of the revenue generated by the football t eam comes from TV revenue by way of the ACC. No, it isn’t as much as the SEC or the Big 10 or 12. But it’s a lot of money and it’s paid because these young men give their hearts and souls to the game. Talk about unfair! Our players have spent countless hours in the weight room and on the practice field. Granted, their efforts are providing the level of entertainment we have become accustomed to, and I’m not happy about that. I live in Georgia and have for the past 40 years so life is less than stellar when we lose to the dawgs. But let’s get real. I have invested a pittance compared to our players and coaches. So let’s keep high expectations. And let’s demand accountability. But let’s remember why we have the expectations we have. It’s because Dabo has led us to the mountaintop and we like it. That in no way implies we deserve it. Life is full of uncertainty. And all good things come to an end. So enough with the wanting to fire the coaching staff. And enough with singling out individual players by name and ranting on them. At their age, most of us were almost entirely useless. Show some appreciation for their efforts. Consider how difficult their lives must be right now. How’d you like to be attending practices this week? And be honest; they don’t know how to fix it. So they keep working and keep sweating and keep studying hoping against hope they can turn it around. I believe they will. But being bashed by the fan base won’t further that process. Go Tigers!!!

Who said “we deserve better from Dabo and the team”?

I would argue a lack of accountability is what we’re seeing and is that’s why we’re marching off a cliff financially.

If you pay for a Porsche... you’re going to hold the dealership accountable to make sure you get a Porsche and not a Civic.

I also believe we will get there, but those guys feeling the heat of accountability is part of the process.

I’m not saying it wasn’t said- I was asking who said it. It was in quotes, so I wanted to see what the context was there. Was it a whinny POS fair weather that felt entitled? Or was it holding our leaders of the mens varsity football team accountable?

WE pay it all!

How many games do WE watch on TV? Ratings = $$

How many games do we attend? $$ and it ain’t cheap, especially season tickets and big games like UGA and the playoffs

If you attend Clemson or have family that does, that is big $

If you give money to Clemson and/IPTAY... that is big $

Now, the alternative is to stop caring, stop watching, stop donating, stop attending... which I’m sure some non-alumni will do at some point. There are the fair weather fans. But as an alumni, I can’t stop caring. So I make my voice of displeasure known.

Having a “down” year is one thing when you don’t have the talent needed to compete due to recruiting woes or injuries, but in this case none of that was in play. THIS is completely unwarranted. We are wasting a top 5 talent team because of coaching laxness or incompetence. Pick one or both. This was signaled 2+ years ago, but no action taken. Now here we are.

What I find “rich” is anyone making excuses for coaches who should be cited for dereliction of duty! Now that is rich beyond belief!

Folks don’t realize that Clemson and it’s fan base has carried the ACC for over a decade now. That helped secure the TV deal with ESPN. Clemson fans he' drive viewership #s.

Clemson fans expend large sums of $$ going to games to help bot the program and the town of Clemson business.

Clemson fans donate large sums of $$ to the university and IPTAY and send their kids there for college.

Clemson fans, and mostly alumni, pay the coaches salaries! We can ##### about the results all we want!

I do want to discuss one thing you brought up. We are indeed paying those salaries, out side of any one who has membership with IPTAY. Where do you think the money for those large TV contracts come from? Us, the cable and/or TV service customers. This is why monthly cable costs are so freaking high. Yes, we can management it some ourselves by cutting the cord, etc. But if you want to watch ESPN, unless you are mooching off a friend or family member, you have to pay for it some how. These TV contracts with the conferences are pushed down to the consumer, either through higher monthly fees, or higher costs on products from the ads that are run on the channels during games.

That being said, this is the first year under Dabo in a LONG time our team has truly struggled, and looked completely off sync on the offensive side of the ball. Our expectations as fans have been through the roof due to what we have had these last few years. Dabo and Elliot ARE paid a lot of money to have the team looking like they are prepared each week on offense, NOT be the 120 ranked offense. I trust in Dabo, if I am not always happy with the responses he gives us. I don't work as a coach, so I don't the answers. I am frustrated and saddened but I love our Tigers, and will always support them and the coaches.

Do I think there should be some changes, yes I do. But I don't make those decisions. I am just along for the ride, which for the last 12 year has been so much better than my Tommy West and Bowden years at Clemson.

Pizzed at being called “band wagon fans”. Those kind of statements will get Dabo fired! It is put up or shut up time Mr.Swinney! No more excuses. No more Mr. Nice Guy. Heads need to roll or yours will be on the chopping block.

You can’t seriously believe Dabo’s job is in danger. If you think there is any chance of him being fired from Clemson University in the next decade you are delusional. The man is responsible for the last decade of success, including two national championships in the past six years. There is no chance he is not our head coach as long as he wants to be no matter what a few “big money donors” says or does. Go Tigers!

I keep thinking of the people who are so angry that Tony didn’t have a better game plan for a football game.
And some of those same people are totally fine with having NO PLAN at all for Afghanistan and getting 13 Marines killed (plus all the people left behind, and the refugees coming here).

C’mon man!!!!

I said to never go in there and just drop 4 or 5 nukes and fumigate the place... then ask Iran, Pakistan, Saudi, N Korea, Iraq or anyone else if they want to be next. Would have saved a ton of US treasure, made the point to not mess with us on our soil, saved US soldiers and helped with climate change by reducing the human population!

I haven't seen anyone say "we deserve better."

You are making #### up.

There is a reasonable issue with what we are seeing on the field and the disconnect with the coaches telling us nothing is wrong.

THAT is what people are worried about.

Re: What’s rich to me…

Sep 28, 2021, 5:41 PM

Sorry, you were doing fine until you started fawning all over the players. I can't speak for you but I've know a lot of young men (and women) who were anything but "useless" between the ages of 19 - 22. I shouldn't have to explain it in anymore detail than that. Same with how "difficult" the players lives are. They are at a great school where they will get a great education for the price of free. They practice and play against top competition and have the opportunity to hone their skills to earn millions playing a game.

flag link

Maybe we don’t but the players deserve better…

Sep 28, 2021, 5:53 PM

They deserve to be put in a position to win. They deserve to be taught and coached and leave Clemson as better players than they came in as. DJ has obviously regressed and can you say Ross, Ngata and Ladson have improved? Our 4 and 5 linemen couldn’t block a girls scout troop. So for 11+ million a year, they deserve a whole lot better.
