The funny thing about college memories as you get older

Aug 17, 2022, 2:57 PM

is that any bad memories tend to slip away, and all that you have left are the fun and good times to remember. I was looking at the webcam of the reflecting pool and amphitheater and remembering playing frisbee golf out there, walking back from the library at 2am or whatever after shutting it down many nights, concerts in the amphitheater, and just all the back and forth from my Johnstone or Cope dorm to the classroom buildings or east campus. Lots of good memories. And any bad times - just slipped away.

That's right, because we remember what we want to......

remember, not the unpleasant things. But I still have bad dreams time at the end of every semester when exam time rolls around - those are some bad memories I just can't seem to forget.

I Truly After 30+ Years Can Only Distinctly Remember One

Bad Memory. At a costume party at Y-Beach, a young lady I was hanging out with had a squirt gun and hosed down 2-3 Pikes. all but one of them thought it was funny, it was hot everyone was sweaty anyhow, but this one Napoleon complex guy got in my face like it was my fault. I was feeling pretty good and just laughed it off.

The girl I was with then was trying to hand the squirt gun (bigger than pistol but not super soaker) over to me and this pissed off dude grabs it and smashes it and starts yelling. My roomate, an all-State linebacker in high school who loved a brawl hammered the guy right in his forehead with a jab and then it was on. About 10 other Pikes and wrestlers (no idea why they were together) join in and an all out brawl is on.

The cops come and "detain" about 30 of us. The University and police didn't press charges but all of us went on some kind of behavior probation for a semester. It really put a damper on that next football season.

What year was that?

I was a grad student and definitely remember a fight at a party out at Y-Beach.

Sometimes good things fall apart so better things can fall together.

What you just described is the best it ever would get.

It all goes downhill from those moments.

There's something in these hills.

Maybe so but I still remember almost dying in Fall of 1959 of Flu

and missing exams days away since I laid in the college infirmary bed with high temps & fevers during 1st semester of my freshman..

and again in Jan 1966 back at Clemson as a married student and 1 semester from graduating and splattering hip from sidewalk slip & fall and hitting sharp curb during late snowy evening while out taking my sports article written for student newspaper The Tiger..

missing the entire semester due to unreal 8 week hospital stay in traction..4-6 weeks in full length body cast at home in G'villle and then walking campus in June-Aug with crutches and having to graduate at Old Campus auditorium rather than with my class at the outdoor site.

But everything else minor I've probably forgot.

as I get older, my stories change and always seem to get better.
