I think WYFF missed the mark on this storm

Jan 16, 2022, 4:26 AM

said 1"-3" by 7pm Sunday here in Powdersville. Currently at 3" in the front yard and still coming down hard. Maybe they measure like women do and not start at the base.

Maybe they're still reporting on Georgia.***

probably will be seeing more.

The freezing stuff has now dipped southward here to where I live on Lake Murray near Ballentine with my porch railings starting to freeze over, while the white flakes look heavy in your area stretching back into Georgia, then southward.

And of all things, now the Weather Channel is forecasting snow for our area this coming Thursday night through Saturday morning. Makes me wonder if those weather geeks sit around drinking beer while saying, "Let's mess around with those yingyangs' minds for a couple of days, forcing them back into the grocery stores!"

True story: in early February 1969, several of us took a Clemson car to Myrtle Beach to the Ocean Forest Hotel for a meeting with the GM to plan the annual convention of the S.C, Collegiate Press Assn. I was the President of that Association and took along two Clemson friends and a Carolina student, all who were also officials. The second day a snowstorm broke out with reports that it extended on upstate, which curtailed our trip. Thank God, one of the fellows from Clemson was from New York, as he was able to negotiate the slick, snowy roads to Columbia, then on to Clemson. The diciest stretch seemed to be in the Mauldin area along 276 with that car fishtailing constantly. But my friend, Paul, handled it nonplussed, while we cr@pped our pants. Once back at Clemson, I vowed right then and there to let others venture out onto snowy, icy roads.

be an age-related lapse.

I knew most of the mainstream media personnel in those days, including most of the brass with "The State" and the (now defunct) "Columbia Record." One of my favorites was Herman Helms, longtime Sports Editor with "The State." Helms regularly launched vitriolic attacks against the South Carolina athletic department. I thought when Spurrier launched his little set-to against "The State" several years ago, had Helms still been at his post, he would have ignited a scorched-earth attack against Spurrier and the Carolina Administration with the paper's entire staff solidly behind him. It would have been fun to watch with no doubt in my mind as to the victor...Helms was formidable, as were most in the print media in those days.

That nerdy weatherman on wyff is so dramatic. He says he always gives the you the worst case scenario half the time he is wrong. I would just like the best case scenario without the drama. Dan on wspa is the best

Sydney won't be around long

Seems all the young weather people bolt the first chance they get. Cedric was the young one for a few months before he went to do weather in Chattanooga before Sydney came in.

You may be right, but

Cedric left to be closer to home and family. I do agree, however, that the days of a Dale Gilbert hanging around forever are probably gone.

when he first started, all of his suits were baggy AF. After about 2 months, you could tell some good checks started coming in cause he wasn't buying off the rack anymore. Had him a couple of sharp tailored suits.

Charlie Gertz for me back in the 80’s on WFBC/WYFF. He would be drinking in the bar Casablanca downtown Greenville every night. He may have owned it. It was a good bar.

I believe his wife Lucille owned that bar and yes you could see him there some nights between the 6pm and 11pm news.

I won a "Charlie Said It Would" umbrella back then.

Charlie Gertz was there when I lived in Greenville. Nothing but freezing rain falling up here in Fort Mill right now.

Don't you know that none of the stations in the upstate ever miss the mark. The mark is to get everyone into an uproar, or tizzy then race off to the pumps, fill up their vehicle, then make the Wal-Mart parking lot into one finger pointing fender bender as everyone, and their monkey's uncle race into the store to buy up all the bread and milk they can get their hands on.
Why bread and milk seems to be the two most sought after items is beyond me. I always grab an extra jar of peanut butter and some charcoal just in case the power goes out and I need to cook up all the meat in the freezer before it goes bad.
As for my house, the cars have ice on the windows but since Church has been cancelled this morning I don't need to go out.
Oh dang, I forgot to go get any beer yesterday.

What really sucked about all of it

Jan 16, 2022, 5:54 AM

is that I'm off Friday, Sat and Sun and I always do grocery shopping at 7am Friday mornings.. I pulled into the Bojangles in Easley at 6:50 on Friday, got my stuff and went around the building to pull down to Publix and there was a line of about 15 people AT THE DOOR WITH CARTS waiting on them to open up. By the time I finished my biscuit, Botato rounds and half my sweet tea, the parking lot was 75% full... I was forced to do my normal weekly grocery shopping with all the rubes, which made me one of them.

Thanks for the laugh!

I'm down in North Georgia and I've got nothing but wind. 30 minutes north of me is apparently a winter wonderland.

Agree it started snowing soon after the Bills game ended.

Jan 16, 2022, 7:58 AM

Looks like around 2 to maybe 3 inches of snow and ice pellets so far.

Pouring ice in Fort Mill. If it was snow we would be getting a good bit for sure.
