Louisville and what they really mean

I like Louisville. I think adding them will be a great thing . But I see some people think that bringing them in adds strength to the ACC. In basketball, yes. In football, I'm afraid this will be short lived. They are going to enter a conference where they will have to face Clemson and maybe fsu in the same year. I'd say that will bring them back down to normal. If a couple other schools continues to come on, I doubt in a few years the ACC will be seen as weak. Which, btw, I think is overstated as it is . As long as Clemson and fsu remains and Miami can get back on track, the ACC will never trully be weak. Louisville can be a great addition but only as a part of the whole. The real beast in the ACC is in Pickens county, sc.

So, even if they don't make huge improvements, they are still a better team and many others already in the ACC (WF, Duke, UVA, maybe NC State at times, etc.)

football program. They might have ups and downs like everyone else but they won't ever be an embarrassment to the ACC like Dook and Wake.

Oh no. I don't seem them as an embarrassment. Not at all. But competition is a great equalizer. They are gonna have to work alot harder to keep their status. Won't be easy for them.

At some point the SEC is going to take a step or two back to the other conferences. It could begin this season. Adding UL will help the ACC and it steps into the SEC a little more with UK in the same state.

in the ACC right now and is only going to get better now that they're in the ACC. UL is going to be a top tier program in this league for years to come and we better get used to it, especially in football!

If allowed to maintain their current academic requirements..

they will be ok as they will take kids that Clemson won't. Unlevel playing field. All schools should just suck it up and take any kid that meets NCAA standards.

exactly. right now, ul can take kids other acc teams can't.

we'll see what happens. the ncaa minimum wouldn't hurt any schools academic standard considering football only has 85 schollies, and most of the kids could get, and i didn't say would get, into most schools, just using the minimal entrance requirements and nothing else.

How many recruits do ACC teams compete for in the area?
Aug 16, 2013, 4:06 PM

No matter what is true about academics and stuff, the advantage that Louisville has is competing for players in KY/OH/IN and maybe PA that wouldn't normally consider many ACC teams and might put a lot of effort into UK.
Just like Syracuse and BC will never be big competitors for a most of the same talent as Clemson or FSU or Miami, neither will Louisville in my opinion. There may be a player here and there but not likely every season.

BTW Clemson takes kids that meet NCAA minimum requirements like most schools.
People show their ignorance talking down other schools. Vandy does as well, it is called athletics, that's the ticket to get in at lower standards than most students.
Nothing against Lousiville, Clemson or Vandy or anyone else but using the school as the excuse a kid didn't go there is a very uneducated statement.
Look no further than CJ spiller for that one and yes he was on the Deans list at Clemson

Louisville will Play Clemson and FSU every year. And even if they lose those 2 games every year (which they won't they can be good enough to win the rest of them just about every year. That stadium seats 60,000 right now and the master plan sets full size at 80,000. I would bet money that they expand that stadium to full capacity within 5 to 8 years after coming to the ACC.
We may regret getting what we asked for. Louisville is rocketing to the Top in every sport. They are already the highest revenue producing school in the ACC without yet getting paid the money from the TV contract.

What Louisville did this past year was unheard of

Not only were they the first school ever to make a BCS bowl, the final four, and the CWS in the same season; but their women's basketball team also reached the final four, and their soccer team made the elite 8. They were on top of the world last year. They are entering the ACC at a time when their resume could not get any better.
Having said that, I will take them over Maryland, but have to agree that they will never continue at a pace like that, and their football success will likely be short lived. They will be much more consistent in basketball than they ever will in football.
They do add a fourth ACC/SEC in-state rivalry with Kentucky which should make things a little interesting.

They have a better chance to be strong in football

in the ACC than many others that have been in the conference for a while. I think they could be at the bottom of the top 5 or the top of middle 5. They will most likely NOT be in the bottom five like Duke, WF, UVA, etc.
It's not hard to imagine Louisville would routinely be just behind Clemson, FSU, Miami, and VT or GT in football if not competing in those ranks from time to time.
