What is the point of early commits

Just an idea but maybe the ncaa should do away with early commits. Just make all commits on national signing day. Not worth the amount of time people put into this plus the suspense would be like christmas day all over again.

They should add an Early Signing Period like in

basketball. The system we have now is what you're describing.

The NCAA doesn't have anything to do with "commits"--which is why it's not a binding thing. It's just a kid giving his word to sign with a school on NSD.
