What is a good person? I truly believe that the vast majority of people want to be good.

I think most people would agree that to answer what or who is a good person first requires a statement of the standard. What is the measurement? In answering that,is truth external to us, or do we create it? Is morality discerned or created? Until that is answered, I think there is no answer to your question, beyond each person's own subjective opinion, each as valid as another.

My own opinion is that everyone wants to be good, and that no one lives up to even their own standard for that. So, some people might be 'good' according to a subjective average of goodness: everyone is more or less good than that average. Or, alternately, no one is good by an objective standard. If that is the case, good as to come from somewhere, which I think is the point of your next post on the board.

This is not addressing the fact that if there is a God, all are his creation with equal dignity and standing. Our behavior against His design for creation is another matter, the one you are asking about.

Christ said '...there is none good but one...' I hate this but if we're going to weight the goodness of man we find all men coming up short. 'Our righteousness is as filth rags...'

If we use man's reference to good we are confused and try to weight the good done to the bad done as if we have some concept of righteousness which has value other than the righteousness of God.

I agree, most people try to be good but our rationalizations excusing ourselves of bad actions and thoughts brings as much harm to us as committing the bad act.

I constantly catch myself attempting to offer excuse in prayer. No, that's a lie. The Holy Spirit constantly outs me and makes me know that He knows me better than I know myself.

Suggest reading Psa 139. I run but I don't hide.

A good person is just a nice person with good intentions for the world around them. A bad person is just a person who generally treats others poorly in whatever way, basically a selfish person.
