What Happens When the NIL Money

Oct 26, 2021, 10:12 AM

dries up for a player not performing? Does the light bulb come on and performance improve or have they received enough money up front that it doesn't matter? Does anyone know what kind of money these guys and gals are really getting? I've read they can get as much as $10,000 to $20,000 for an ad on social media depending on the number of followers they have.

The closest I have heard to a specific number for a player currently starting for his college is for Bryce Young at Bama.

It was mentioned before the season that his deals combined to reach 7 figures.

The only deal with a specific number value I have heard is for the freshman QB at Ohio St who is getting $1.4 million (I believe) over 3 years for an autograph deal. He rides the bench behind a RS freshman and Heisman contender at OSU, so I'm not sure how that deal is going to work out for him in the long run.

recruiting tool.

School Booster owns/has ties to a company and they offer Mr. 5star to come to their school for $500K and they'll slap their face on their billboard, commercial, apparel, etc.....

The SEC was already paying players, so there was no real change beyond tax ramifications. The pressure has always been there. Dabo (and I) are looking for the squeaky clean recruit. So this was the first time DJ faced that kind of pressure.
Some 19-20 year olds can handle it, others can’t. I don’t see DJ breaking out of this until he inevitably transfers.
So the question will always be: Did NIL money serve as the breaking point or was he just overrated due to his size and arm strength?
This year, one thing is sure, he isn’t a gamer…
