Don't see any way the NCAA will let them slide by unless they join the SEC then they would just get a sternly-worded letter.

in an odd way Paterno did. He probably wasnt in great health given his age but I believe the Sandusky thing really hastened his demise

I totally agree with you. This scandal had a part in his death.

What happened at Penn State in inexcusable....

but it really is not an ncaa matter. It does not involve any player recruitment or improper benefits to student athletes.

As I said, the situation that occurred at Penn State is awful and inexcusable, but it has nothing to do with athletics. It could have happened in any department at Penn State, just so it was in the football office.

Didn't involve athletics? Really? It was by far the largest cover up by an athletic department in history! If anything warrants the so called death penalty, this does. If this doesn't, then nothing does.

PSU has benefitted greatly by their staff covering up the sordid incidents. How can you say with a straight face that it had nothing to do with athletics?

No institutional control in AD.***

True, but the basis for any "lack of institutional control"

sanctions from the NCAA involves turning a blind eye to inducements/extra benefits to players and recruits.

We can all agree that the Penn State problems are horrible, but they are moral and legal issues, not NCAA issues.

Depends on how liberally you define "gaining an advantage"

You could argue that the cover-up was designed to protect the football program from bad publicity, which gave Penn State an unfairly-deserved reputation and an advantage in all sorts of athletic matters (recruiting, TV appearances, endorsements, etc.).

So you're saying that if all this would have came out when it happened it would not have effected their recruiting and they would have signed everyone they did? They definitely gained an advantage by sitting on it.
