I wonder if the non conference schedule hurt the softball

seeding in the tourney. Series with Furman, Elon and Winthrop probably didn't boost strength of schedule.

1 year program likely more.

What difference would it make? Either we are good enough to beat Bama and advance or we are not that good. Either way its been a great season.

Playing at home in front of your fans vs playing in another state.

Exactly. When Bobby Bowden was growing his FSU program he would take them on the road and schedule anyone anytime and #### well beat them too. Gotta play and beat the best to be the best.

non conference...

Considering our ranking in the top 15, being ACC regular season champs, and a 1 run loss in the ACC championship we got hosed in the seeding. SEC Bias was on prominent display last night. Even the UCLA and Michigan coach spoke out about it.

Couple things - #1 - 3 years ago Clemson had no softball team. It is impossible to get on anyone’s schedule when you don’t have a team.

#2 - rating percentage index (RPI) was invented by the NCAA to help in seeding the NCAA Men’s Basketball tournament in 1981. It is a garbage number that actually just shows if your opponents are any good. RPI does NOT care by how much you win. RPI does not care if you play every game at home. RPI rewards you for PLAYING teams with good records. You don’t need to WIN against teams with good records, you just need to play them. RPI is such a garbage number, that the group that the number was invented for, NCAA men’s basketball, no longer uses it.

This is the RPI formula
25% your record
50 % your opponents records
25 % your opponents opponents record

75% of what RPI represents has little to do with your team.

#3 - if you compare NCAA Softball tournament seeding & NCAA Softball RPI, you will find that they are nearly in lockstep.

#4 - so NCAA Softball, took a garbage number that was invented from thin air 40 years ago, with zero mathematical proof that it means anything, inserted it into a seeding process as if it means everything and then ignorantly ignored their ignorant ignorance for 40 years.

My guess is that 95% of all NCAA selection committee members have ZERO understanding of what RPI actually means. Someone told them ten years ago that it’s really important and they just roll with that. It’s truly pitiful.
