Isn't Will getting married soon? I think I saw that he was recently engaged.

The Swinney boys have always been a ticklish subject on the

TNets. I personally have no problems with them being on the team, coaches sons by and large are some of the smartest football players around, at any level. The only bone of contention would be, since Dabo is being paid at the very top of the College Football coaching scale, he could certainly afford to foot the bill for his boys to attend Clemson. This would free up a scholarship or two, depending on how many are on the team at the given time. Had they all been put on the team as walk-ons, I don't think anyone would have a problem.
But, look at it another way. If anyone else made the team as a walk-on, earned a "starting" job, even as a holder, or earned playing time as a backup receiver, the way Dabo does things, they would eventually be awarded a scholarship. So, why should he penalize his sons, simply because they ARE his sons? If they had absolutely no skills, to the point that it would hurt the team anytime they hit the field, then they would never HIT the field. So, in the end, I kind of look at it, if nothing else, as a cost of doing successful business. Dabo has won us two Nattys, and played for it, at least in semifinals, four other times. I do believe I will give him a pass on this one.

I don’t see why anyone would get twisted by that though; it was much more about recognition of his contributions than it was the money. There is an honor that is conferred upon a player when he becomes a walk on that has earned a scholarship; should a guy be denied that honor just because his daddy is rich?

It prevents two deserving players from attending Clemson, and it impacts Clemson's product on the field.

IMHO, the holder should ALWAYS be on scholarship

Ditto the long snapper.
These are critical positions to the overall success of the team. They can have a huge impact.
Now, should the holders always be Swinneys? I guess that’s another question entirely.
But, I really have no qualms giving a full ride to a guy who is ultra competent regardless of whether or not his daddy’s rich and his ma is good lookin.

I’m guessing he can afford to pay Clemson’s tuition as well. If the equation is only about cash and not merit, let’s go ahead and pull his scholly and give it to someone else. Also those walk on scholarships are awarded after signing day when recruiting classes are complete; it didn’t prevent any recruited athlete from selecting Clemson.

I did it for six years for my junior high and high school teams from the time I was in the 7th grade until I graduated in 1981. It's one of those positions, similar to the long snapper, where recognition generally only comes when you mess-up, so I was always perfectly content never hearing my name called. I have no problem with the holder being on scholarship, and most coaches and kickers will agree.

Perhaps I am wrong but I thought all of them were walk ons.. and then earned their scholarship! And yes they have definitely contributed to the team.
How would you like if you could never receive recognition of your effort and accomplishments because of your Fathers accomplishments?

I thought Will did a great job on the radio broadcast. Very insightful and professional delivery. I hope he does more and becomes a regular...

and I guess they earned their scholarships, even if the main reason they had the chance to do so was because their father is the head coach. I just look what's going on at Iowa right now with Ferentz and his unqualified, overpaid son and hope we never have to deal with a situation like that here at Clemson.
