Any good bowler will tell you a major key to success…
Jan 27, 2022, 12:41 PM

is to bring your hand up and turn your wrist, much like you are coming up for a handshake, during your release. I think the same can be said for being successful in life. Always go in for a handshake in business, when meeting new people, or old friends. I think you will find it will help set the tone for success. Except during COVID, if you don’t feel comfortable. Then a fist bump might work ok. But that technique doesn’t necessarily translate back to bowling.
Thank you.

One thing you have left out in this semi post Covid world that has become quite an issue is the all time high rates of seeing “the gobbler”. This is when one person goes for the shake, the other for the fist bump and the shaker just grabs the fist and gives it a shake. We need to solve this new epidemic before it gets too far out of hand.

Fist Bumping is probably more common in Real Men's sports

like Boxing and Mixed Martial Arts. Bowling is more of a game like Shuffle Board or Bumper Pool, and the proper etiquette would be to wipe your hand on your shirt before shaking another contestant's hand, but this rarely happens..

Thank you for this information, it should help me evaluate and avoid giving or receiving any gobblers moving forward. I am an excellent judge of athletic abilities based on appearance.

Ok smarty pants...so, I tried this but I could not shake
Jan 27, 2022, 1:09 PM

the guy's hand while holding the bowling ball.
So what is the fix for that ?
Needless to say, this was very awkward...and I may have even lost a future friend over it.

Handshake needs to be firm and have good eye contact. In bowling keep your eye on your mark on the lane and not on the pins

You are probably used to bowling with house balls and not a custom weighted ball with rubber finger tip inserts, like me.

I generally use the house 4-pound ball, but I can not fit my fingers all the way inside of it. I have instead developed a technique, not much different from the hammer throw, that gets it down on top of the 5 pin after one high arching bounce in the lane. It is a real attention grabber and usually results in a Strike.

When I dropped it, the prof had to sign off and asked me why? I said “because I have a 23 average” and he said nothing, just signed my drop form.

I always wondered why I couldn’t get credit for the 202 level classes after I took the 101 classes twice.
