what a pointless move for the ACC

Sep 12, 2012, 10:11 AM

hey, wanna join our conference? oh btw, you can leave your most valuable asset out. notre dame football hasn't been nearly as good the past few years but they're still a huge cash cow. who knows if clemson will even get to see the benefit of this in football seeing as how we already had to drop ok st. and ole miss because of our OOC scheduling problems with a 9 game ACC schedule. i hope this works out for the ACC but it should have been all or nothing.

yes, i'd prefer to retract the last two rounds of expansion

and stay at 12.

Syracuse, Pitt, and ND all are mistakes in my view (as presently structured)

This is going to bring the ACC more $, even with a couple

football games. Everyone's biggest gripe was being a couple mil $ behind the other conferences in TV deals. *IF* this deal alone helps bridge the gap, who cares if they don't play football?

While all the details aren't out yet it's obviously doing

something to strengthen the conference b/c the exit fee has been upped substantially. Obviously the current schools are liking what's going on, Clemson and FSU included.

Agree - show me the money.

I can live with this if it does 2 things: (1) gets us closer to the other conferences in revenue and (2) deals with the 9-game scheduling inequity for Clemson, FSU, and GT. ND entering should allow the ACC to renegotiate what is now acknowledged as a pretty bad contract in comparison to others. And this 5-game ACC schedule for ND could allow the conference to go to an "8-game conference schedule + ND". More like an 8 1/2 game conference schedule, I guess.

I've got to believe that our Board (and FSU's) have digested all the complaints about the ACC this summer and would not have signed off on this without those two issues being addressed.

Of course, I've been disappointed with conference and University leadership before. Time will tell.
