Outside Magazine said the average income from Telluride
Oct 5, 2021, 1:39 PM
|

residents was $60k per year. I assume that is because most don't have a reported annual income or are actually living elsewhere and reporting that income there. Otherwise, I have no idea how you can live inside a building for that low of pay. You gotta have 6 people making that living in a 2 bedroom place in order to be CLOSE to making it work.
We did the math, I need three jobs to make it work, and that is a BIG stretch.

Heavy use of a rent control lottery for the local workers
Oct 5, 2021, 1:45 PM
|

To have lodging. The places on the left when you come into town are all workers and all the units at the base of chair 7 are too. We’re talking $500/month.
Basically any new house built in the last 20 years(T-ride or Mtn Village) has had to fund the creation of another rent control dwelling concurrently, and the taxes are also allocated to property subsidy.
Essentially Aspen and Dax can live there cheap because Oprah and Tom Cruise have houses there. Great model when a town has enough rich people to not feel the pinch.

the locals who work at all the resort properties and didn't notice that in Telluride.
My friends in Jackson Hole said it is similar there, but even worse of an income gap. I think Teton County is the most expensive county in the United States. San Miguel County is probably up there as well.

I bought myself a mountain e-bike earlier this year

it is a freaking amazing invention. First bike I've owned (or even been on) since I turned 15 years old and got a drivers license. I built myself a bike trail through my backyard wilderness acreage and am having so much fun baja-ing it.
It'll go 30mph on flat ground using just the throttle which is F-A-S-T on a bicycle. About a 25-30 mile range if you don't pedal one lick, but way more if you put in some effort. And like you say, that uphill pedal assist boost makes you feel like superman.
I've almost started a discussion on here but haven't ever gotten around to it, to see if anybody else has one.

because I was a "serious" cyclist, but since my time is more limited and my knees are getting older, I'm interested. I had a buddy who had one and was always posting about all the miles he was putting in and it always made me wonder what the equivalent was on a normal bike. I think the farthest I ever rode my road bike was 50 miles in one flat ride, but had worked up to regularly doing 20-25 on hilly rides.
Now I'm not sure I could do 15.

I think for the serious cyclist the proper use
Oct 5, 2021, 3:31 PM
|
|
is to use the e-boost as "backup" so to speak, to ride as normal 95% of the time, and use the pedal assist for those leg-buster hills late in the ride when you'd previously have to rest or walk it up.
I know mine functions as a normal multi-geared bike as much as I want it to, has 21 speeds. You can turn the pedal boost off, or even take the battery out.

SRS Question

Do you fly into Denver and drive out there every time? Or fly into Montrose? Or are you ballin' and take the private jet straight into Telluride's airport?

Done all of those plus driving from TN

T-ride is nice and all but it’s a butt-puckering landing and in the winter it closes at the drop of a hat.
Never lived anywhere that I didn’t have to catch a connection to MTJ, so I add 3-ish hours minimum to the travel time, plus you’re still looking at and hour and a half drive once you get there.
So for 1.5 hours more travel time, I can get a cheap ticket to Denver, a cheaper car rental, and drive one of the prettiest 6 hour drives in the country.
