Is there some kinda Clemson-Tennesse rivalry

I don't know about? Just turned on gameday and the crowd starts booing anytime Clemson is mentioned. I cant tell you the last time I've had any sort of thought about Tennessee football.
Just curious if there is any history behind the crowd reaction.

Maybe it’s the color orange. They seem to wash their orange in bleach to get that ugly orange look. Or maybe ghost are just old Clemson jerseys that have been washed 1000 times.

as pretenders, Johnny-come-latelies that don't belong in big-boy football like they and the rest of the SEC do. Facts be ######. Plus for about 40 years now, we have been out-recruiting them, taking a lot of players they traditionally would have gotten. There is some bitter history as well, but that's on our end. In the 70s, when we truly were big underdogs, well before big bowl wins or NCs, we went to UT a couple of times and alomost beat the big SEC Vols, only to lose due to some very questionable (illegal) plays and highly suspect officiating.

I think it was having a wideout stand at the sidelines and turned toward the coach. After the snap he took off down the field and got a long pass for a score.
I'm 70 now so if I've gotten this mixed up with a dream or confused with another game please excuse me.

rivalry as far as non-conference goes. We are in each other's back yards, and both schools have football crazy fan bases.

29-28 UT in 74, and 21-19 UT in 76. They had a lot of help both times. Seriously great football atmosphere though, at least it was then.

My honey was a Spring City girl who had a room dedicated to Vols. I told her she wouldn't be happy with Lane and that she could expect at least a decade of misery from firing Fat Phil and hiring Lame Kitten as his replacement.
I was there at Highlands in Chattanooga on the night of the Peach Bowl when Fulmer's Vols when down to a pitiful Clemson squad. I was there the previous week sporting the Paw both times. The previous week the band played Rocky Top for me. They played it the night they lost too.
I had something in common with them at the time. I had been walking in that desert void of respect which they were entering. My walk ended when Clemson named Dabo head coach. They have another 15 years to walk in that dry and thirsty land.

Well back in the day there was a big stink over two players out of Tennessee that we got and then they turned us in for recruiting violations. That’s how we got put on probation in 1982 I think.
