Well, the Coots can rest easy again. Since there was one

more football team bowl eligible this year than there were existing bowl slots, the NCAA created one more new bowl. Not a joke, they did. So, whoever gets in it will be playing a team that was not technically bowl eligible, to fill the other slot.

For naming, maybe they could call it the Irrelevancy Bowl, and have a special parade and prizes like the NFL does for Mr. Irrelevant, the very last guy taken in the draft each year?

The number of them nowadays is redonkulous.

By start of each decade, per the Google thingy:

1950- 9 bowls

1960- 9 bowls

1970-11 bowls

1980-15 bowls

1990-19 bowls

2000-25 bowls

2010-35 bowls

2020-26 bowls (Covid obviously affected this number, in 2019 there were 40)

2021-44 bowls

At this rate of bowl expansion, we are not more than a few years away from EVERY team being in a Participation Trophy bowl, regardless of record.

I have a friend who is on the Mayo Bowl selection committee

and according to him, uof7c is receiving strong consideration where they could face either UNC or Nancy State. The Dirtperckers would get steamrolled by either of those two opponents IMO. Virginia is a possibility as well but with Mendenhall just resigning and the program in flux, that option is less appealing. Virginia Tech would also be another possible opponent. A match-up of Beamer's current and former schools which is a little cheesy IMO but something that is being considered.

Another possibility is facing some AAC opponent (Houston or UCF) or Conference USA opponent (UAB or WKU) in the Birmingham Bowl. This is the bowl most chickens I know would prefer because they think it gives them a little better opportunity to finish the season with a win especially if they draw UAB or WKU. They don't want anything to do with Houston or UCF.

Sometimes good things fall apart so better things can fall together.

I don't have faith that UNC would steamroll ANYBODY.
