So does this mean that Clemson and every school in the country can set up fake classes, and the NCAA would fail to find any wrong doings. Does this open the door for schools that have players that can't stay academically qualified, to set up fake classes and give all those players A's to keep them qualified??? UNCheat done it for 15 to 20 years, and the NCAA says that no harm no foul!!!

UNC could give a 7 figure check to a HS kid on national TV and the NCAA would not see anything wrong with it. But, let a kid make a buck doing instruction videos on YouTube about kicking, and they will end his college career.

Is this the dawn of a new paper curriculum at each institution? There only to provide the guise of academics? I wonder what the mindset is in the ACC presidents offices of member institutions is today? What an embarrassment to UNC, ACC?

Re: FB Update: NCAA could not conclude UNC violated academic rules

Oct 13, 2017, 11:37 AM

Agree it's an embarrassment for many heel alumni. Not sure it applies widespread to their current administrators and leadership cause they spent millions to dodge NCAA sanctions.

It is a black cloud on their entire academic institution however that will only be improved with specific actions to remedy the flawed academic oversight. This should be extended to an ACC wide review, if they care about lessons learned.

I won't hold my breath on either happening.

Usually there is always the straw that breaks the camels back. So I ask, what will it take for colleges to have enough of the favoritism that the NCAA gives to just certain schools, and breaks it off in the rest of them that does less harm, but gets the harshest punishment?

Hmm. One would think that obvious cheating would have at least been managed better . Next time I bet they'll keep better records of their institutional cheating so that the NCAA can find stuff out about stuff and stuff .

The NCAA would rather destroy amateur athletics, the very thing it is established to protect, rather than take down a banner at UNC-Ch. remarkable.

But there is now NO reason for any program to not offer a similar program. Make them available classes. Student Athletes already get preferred sign-up for classes so if a few non-athletes want an A for no work, that's a small price to pay.

A sad day for fans of college athletics.

I'm tired of the NCAA. Can we go ahead and just have semi- pro teams at the college level?

It seems a little dirty abandoning the goal of amateur athletics but not as dirty as this.

Oct 13, 2017, 11:00 AM

"Surprise! Surprise! Surprise!"!! I suspected this was going to happen when they started seeing academic mischief from the years of the "Holy" Dean Smith. One thing the NCAA does better than bombing the "new kids on the block" winning programs is protect legendary winning coaches, no matter how dirty their programs, be it Wooden's UCLA players diving around campus in Ferraris, Rupp's UK players having T-Birds, Dooley's GA players taking courses that left them unable to graduate at the end of their football eligibility(not to mention Walker's hiring an agent his sophomore tear which should have forced him off the team), Lou Holtz's ND Quarterback club funneling money to players through a secretary, and Eddie Robinson's players graduating Grambling illiterate.

"However, NCAA policy is clear. The NCAA defers to its member schools to determine whether academic fraud occurred and, ultimately, the panel is bound to making decisions within the rules set by the membership.”

"North Carolina said the work was assigned, completed, turned in and graded, often by the former secretary, under the professor’s guidelines. While the university admitted the courses failed to meet its own expectations and standards, the university maintained that the courses did not violate its policies at the time."

Yeah, well we failed to meet our standards, but...we're innocent! I swear it! UNC is able to determine its own fate because it is supremely corrupt and dishonest.

5h!t and didn't want to loose the revenue UNC basketball brings them. H3ll, UNC probably paid them directly in this case. NCAA basically said, "If you tell me your classes were not a fraud, we'll believe that." What a bunch of crap. Many have been penalized for less. The NCAA rationale even sounds suspicious. It has also laid the blueprint for all others to follow to keep their atheletes academically eligible. Create a bogus class, along with the atheletes enroll some of the brainless and lazy from the student population, especially if ma and pa are big donors, probably throw in a few houchies, treat the all the same grade-wise giving them the best grades they will ever see in college, and you're home free.
