Our football "Problem" is..

Sep 11, 2022, 6:15 PM

that We achieved or overachieved with such a high degree of success for so many years and had 2 of the very best college QB's to ever grace a field.

Saying, we were fortunate..and high expectations are now normal while that success continuing isn't assured or easy to maintain unless your name is.. Saban & Alabama.

But, if any Head Coach is able to regain ultimate re-prominence of their program it will be Dabo Swinney!

Go TiGERS!

Well said LBB ...

No doubt expectations are way up. 76er® had a good post on all the excitement around App State and Boone, NC yesterday. Clemson has reached such peaks that adrenaline rush is harder to recreate for our fan base. IMO there has been a loss of innocence and appreciation, even though Clemson will always be the greatest for our fans and alums.

It goes with "best is the standard" and "the best is yet to come". There is much to look forward to, but honestly I'm skeptical that beating #1 Bama by 28 points in a national championship game can be duplicated, and does it need to be? The Tigers who can just appreciate any old win and not be concerned about making the playoffs & winning championships may be far smarter than the rest of us.

Clemson is just caught in an awkward type of rebuilding stage. Problem is we are having a hard time finding the right cement like we used to have that is going to dry the right way without crumbling in a bad way when stressed... to where you have to fix it all over again and again...and again. Kind of like that annoying ### pothole in the road. No matter how much you fix it by just patching it up.....it gets damaged by cars... heavy trucks...and weather. Therefore it gets worse little by little. Next thing you know you got a large sinkhole or something.

Meanwhile..... when we're trying to figure it all out like we lost the way to do things.... other teams are steady as they go or others are rising up from the depths of dispare and darkness and evolving into a new ferocious animal...... until somebody is able to smack it the mouth and smack it down.

Kind of sounds like a familiar path.
Welcome to the new wild kingdom of college football.

Yep, we've become so accustomed to success

Sep 11, 2022, 7:34 PM

that we've gotten spoiled. Just a bit. Those App State celebrations were certainly fun to watch, but our days of Others-Receiving-Votes Parties are long past. We have a new standard.

To me what's frustrating is we have NFL talent, or potential NFL talent. Either way, we have the players to achieve these high standards. We've recruited well and each one has flashed. Just unlike the past, everyone is hitting on all cylinders at the same time as we've done the last decade. But through the success, we had an engine that powered all the parts... Those were DW4, TL16, and actually kb2. Whether is DJU or Cade, they'll be the engine that gets that firepower moving in the right direction.

I think the "problem" is that CFB has changed.

Sep 11, 2022, 9:43 PM

It used to be about good coaching and strategy. Now it's more about recruiting and talent. People watch games expecting good coaching and strategy, but in reality it's just talent out there making big plays.

CFB is about the Jimmys and Joes, not the Xs and Os.

Dabo is an extremely good modern CFB coach. But people watching from the old mindset are going to have plenty to complain about.
