Clemson football getting beaten by transfer players.

With Bama filling major needs by adding To'o To'o from Tennessee - one of the SEC's top LBs last year- and adding Jameson Williams from Ohio St (a previous 4 star WR), I started thinking about transfers who beat Clemson recently.
In 2015, Clemson lost one game...Bama in the Natty. The QB was a transfer from FSU, Jake Coker.
In 2016, Clemson lost one game...PITT. The QB was a transfer from Tennessee, Nathan Peterman.
2017 - Our losses were legit.
2019 - Clemson lost one game... LSU. Transfer QB from Ohio St (and multiple transfers)
2020 - Clemson lost one game (not counting the ND game with our whole team hurt)... Ohio St. Transfer QB from UGA and transfer RB from Oklahoma.
Now, I'm not suggesting we need to go to the portal. But it is pretty crazy that one of the only ways to beat Clemson is to do it with transfers.
Even Bama can't beat Clemson without transfers.

in your scientific evaluation of the Clemson losses, you think the Tigers should have gone to the portal to find a QB & RB to replace Watson, Lawrence & ETN.

The issue is whether Clemson should consider transfer for positions of need---not positions such as QB or RB where there wasn't a need. Alabama, Ohio St. and other schools have done that and succeeded. I have full confidence in our coaching staff, however, CFB (like most things) is constantly changing: new schemes, new coaches, etc. If you don't evolve and improve, you get left behind.

just because he said he didn't like it doesn't mean he'll never use it. At least i don't think thats the case. But i tend to believe that this transfer portal will be a key component to winning championships going forward. Its worked for Ohio State and LSU. Without it they're not getting a snif at the national championship. It can also cause instability and chaos if its used flippantly. But Trey Sermon and Justin Fields were pretty vital to that team and they didn't get their initial LOI. LSU hadn't had a decent QB since Jamarcus Russell and the pick up a bench warmer from OSU and win the title. OSU picks up a bench warmer at UGA and they get to the title game and run us out of the gym. IDK... i guess we'll have to wait and see but i dont' see it going anywhere.

Dabo should recruit the portal.
I said that the only schools to beat Clemson have done it with transfers in significant positions.

there aren't too many transfers that don't come with baggage. It's like getting players from JUCO. I think it would have to be the perfect fit for Dabo to pull the trigger.

I’m grateful for how great our Tigers have been. We are really spoiled with winning when we make issues about the portal coasting us when our culture of security for the players is the reason we are where we are, not that we might not have to use the portal but players pick Clemson for the family & culture of security.
