Well, Rich Rod & The Chad haven't exactly burned up the Coaching Ranks with real success..

which is a bit surprising since they worked under Dabo..
but then again Saban's ex-coaches haven't beaten him personally (0-12?) but have overall had steller careers.

Rich Rod never worked under Dabo. And man, I remember a time where we were all clamoring for him to save us. I'll admit, I thought he was pretty good - it's odd to see his trajectory.
As far as Chad, I do think he can get things turned around in Arkansas - but that's not a going to be a quick rebuild. A dumpster fire in the SECW will take several years for any coach. It doesn't look good right now, but I think he can do it - I just hope they give him time. Right now though, he's probably missing SMU.

Some coaches are simply better as coordinators. For whatever reason they simply don't have the "it" factor that successful head coaches do. Some have failed at their first head job and be successful the next time around (Ed Orgeron comes to mind). Others are not successful regardless of how many head coaching jobs they get (Muschamp or Lovie Smith anyone?).

Rich Rod worked under Tommy Bowden at Clemson for one year (1999-2000) as OC/QB coach.
