Any of you have a dump truck?
Apr 29, 2022, 7:42 AM

Seriously considering making my summer job dump truck driving. I'm already a pretty high ranking bus driver.
From what I gather, I can make $15 an hour sitting in an air conditioned cab taking dirt from point A to point B all day.
A Gatorade for hydration and #1 and I should be good to go.
Anybody do this or know somebody who does?

I used to drive one for the city. We would have a competition around who could run over the most road kill everyday. I tried to get a squirrel opossum combo and the load shifted when I was swerving from one to the other. That was no bueno. Almost wrecked it.
I got fired for drinking beer at a park during work. Everyone told me it was impossible to get fired from a government job. I proved them wrong.

You think I’m an amateur? The firing was because I got the truck stuck leaving the park, not because I was drinking beer while laying on the hood with no shirt working on my tan.

You think a guy driving a dump truck for the city could afford a phone with a camera? No pics from that period of my life. Do you want something more recent?

1) buy a plastic tube or hose of sufficient diameter;
2) make sure you have an operational fly;
3) open the master brake cylinder floor access and insert the tube;
4) drink as much as you desire; and
5) void via the tube
The time you'll save by not having to stop to take a #### may make this job profitable, at least for teacher level comp

1. Jimmy. Jimmy was a maybe 19 year old community college student who used to drive our bus from Charlotte all the way to Davidson (30 minutes by car or like 2 hours by school bus).
Highlights: -Let us have parties on the bus with boom boxes and candy. -We were the last stop so he would stop and play basketball with us before driving back. -Once said 'watch this' and got up from his seat (bus moving full speed), ran down to the doors, back to seat, sat down and kept driving. We were amazed. -Was later fired for leaving the train crossing flag girl at the train crossing. She apparently said 'you won't leave me' and so he did and drove around the block, came back and picked her up. Probably not the first entry in his personnel file.
2. Gaye.
Highlights: -Not the best name for an elementary school bus driver. Or the best name for an elementary school bus driver. -Hit a car head on on a one lane bridge on gravel road. Car's fault, probably. Car backed up fast and off the road so we couldn't see license plate, tried to wave us on. Gaye wouldn't move. So car decides to floor it and try to go around us (Did I mention one lane bridge) and ends up nose down in creek.
3. Everybody else.

This is a straight-up case of the media's CMS bias.
No bus drivers from outside the conference. It's like the rest of the school systems in the country don't even drive buses.

https://apnews.com/article/594350b01306fe3c2ff8fa0b9ef39120School Bus Accident Kills Three Students CORNELIUS, N.C. (AP) _ A dump truck smashed into a school bus Friday afternoon, killing three junior high school students and injuring 12 others, officials said. The bus wreckage was wrapped around an oak tree and rescuers worked for several hours trying to free the bodies, said Charlotte-Mecklenburg School Board Chairman George Battle. The bus from Alexander Junior High School in Mecklenburg County was struck at an intersection, authorities said. Two girls and a boy died in the crash, Battle said. Their names were not released. The number of children, ranging in age from 12 to 16, was not immediately known.

I just had a guy tell me $1400 to pressure wash my house and driveway which would take about 2 days. Used to be a few hundred dollars.

You'd have to find an earth moving company which is capable of major projects to be able to sit in a truck all day. Dump drivers pick up and deliver equipment for small companies because they are qualified to transport dozers and track mounted equipment. That means you'd be handling those huge tiedowns and often called upon to load the dozers, other track mounted equipment and backhoes(1).
If you worked for DOT you might work there decades before you 'only sat in an air conditioned truck all day.'
That's "b a c k h o e," backhoe, not blackhoe so don't assume you're qualified for that either.
