take a course on the constitution. My junior year of high school, yes, but never at Clemson. Never knew of anyone who took a mandatory class on the constitution at Clemson. I managed a bar at Clemson while in school and knew a lot of students from the late 70's through the early 80's.
I would like to hear from any Clemson student outside a political science major who took a "required" class on the constitution. I was too busy taking two years of calculus, three semesters of physics, statics, dynamics, thermodynamics, hydrology, structures, soil mechanics, construction management. No classes on the constitution. I learned all of that in high school.
The Daily Signal is off their rocker. Some people will believe just about everything they read.

I don't think many colleges have a mandatory Constitution class. Probably under 1%.

political science, or something close to political science.
Today elementary students are being taught the structure of government. They will learn even more in middle and high school, but such a required course in college seems awfully redundant and unheard of during my years at Clemson.

students to take a diversity class where they will study systemic racism in America. Interesting how they pick and choose what students should take even outside of the major and when its optional.
The Constitution is only the most important piece of documentation ever written in regards to gov't, possibly in the world. It defines our nation, but why should they take a class to understand it. We'll let everyone be ruled by the offended and victims.

To the contrary, across the nation, it is very common for states to mandate that public colleges require students to take a class on the U.S. Constitution (see link below).
Regarding your time as a Clemson student, I have no doubt it was tough to take the calculus classes that you did. I give you props for that. But it does not follow that Clemson cannot require students to take a class on American government. All colleges require students to complete the “core curriculum,” regardless of their program of study. According to state law, American government is simply one of those classes that is supposed to be a part of the core curriculum. Clemson should obey the law, not break the law.

school through high school. I would ask you to list the colleges/universities in South Carolina that require each student to take a course on the constitution. It would seem redundant and unnecessary given the education provided in S.C. K-12 schools.

friends with some of the Senators who voted on the passage of the second reading.
All I know is no one who has attended Clemson University, and I would expect no one who has attended USC have been required to take a "year long" class on the constitution. If by some bizarre situation this is passed, it will not be in this session. The Bill would likely be carried over for discussion next January. .
In the link you provided the USC President in 2014 correctly called this bill archaic.

I was a junior in high school in 1975 in South Carolina. We had to take a history classs called "US Government and Constitution" and pass a test on the Constitution to graduate. Clemson did not require a Constitution class.
