Clemson announces change in leadership of volleyball program

CLEMSON, S.C. - Clemson athletic director Dan Radakovich announced Thursday via news release that he and volleyball head coach Michaela Franklin have mutually agreed that she will not return. “I am appreciative of Michaela’s efforts and her service to Clemson,” said Radakovich. “We looked at all are Read Update »

It's about time and with any other program that isn't winning at a top level.

She was given a terrible starting point because the previous coach was an unmitigated disaster.

Franklin actually had improvement in years 2 and 3. This year was a step back though

Agree T_I_P on being surprised, only lasted 4 years did Michaela Franklin.Really miss Jolene Hoover and what she built at Clemson in her 22 years going 452-259,8 NCAA tournaments berths and 3 ACC Championships.Hopefully Dan Radakovich can find someone similar to Jolene or even a tad better.

I wouldn't !!!!

I believe it was Albert Einstein who is widely credited with saying, “The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, but expecting different results.”

This very accurately describes Clemson's approach when it comes to hiring a volleyball coach. They spent years doing the same thing with wimminz hoops but apparently that experience didn't teach them a darn thing.

If you want different results, you have to try a different approach, so instead of setting an salary range and then trying to find someone who is willing to accept the job for that amount, how about going out and finding the absolute best candidate available, and pay them what-ever-the-#e!! it takes to get them here to right this ship.

I would start by looking at the top assistants at Penn State, Texas and Florida. Probably Wisconsin, Kentucky, and Baylor as well.

The coach at Western Kentucky, Travis Hudson, is pretty darn good too but he's been there a long time and pretty much built that program.

Sometimes good things fall apart so better things can fall together.

Well if the aim is to make a big hire then I am not against the move

May 6, 2021, 7:08 PM

And I agree with you. Considering how much we spend on some other sports is it really that big of a deal to a shell out a few more hundred thousands of dollars for a much better program? Like why get cheap when it comes to not that big of a cost in the grand scheme of the athletic program?

Same thing with the recent tennis hires. I’m willing to give them a chance but neither was a “big” hire

You’re right. Invite assistants from any of those schools to interview and you get a NO. Word out about our facility.

Not that I disagree with the move. Best is the Standard. It should hold true for ALL programs. 4 years... What about the frapping facilities Dan!!! And then see. Hmmm.

Our facility is so much a factor in recruiting. If you watched the NCAA Championships, it’s clear we can’t play at that level without ball hitting the ceiling. It’s terrible and hopeful AD comments about softball expansion, which included improvements to Jervey means we are getting serious about a dang facility for our team. Final Four teams - three had SC women on roster. Expand to sweet sixteen there were more. Talent in SC. High schools/club teams improving drastically.

I see my little TD fairy is following me around again. TD all you want. Don't think I've ever TD'd any post.

This is what I alluded to a few weeks ago. Only mildly surprised

May 6, 2021, 10:56 PM

That DRad pulled the trigger this year, since it was already too late after losing program changing talent; the train had left the station.

Let’s hope he makes a great hire this time and we can get Tiger Volleyball to where we’d all like it to be.

Will we go with a intern for this Fall or hire a new coach ASAP?

Sounds like they need someone who can win and not run off the players at the same time. VB in the Dallas area is huge! Every gym is packed. Could be a great sport at Clemson.

I’ll coach volleyball if they need me to bring change to the program. I need at least a 4 year contract, big signing bonus and I’ll be making changes quickly.

Looking for athletic girls over 6’5”, should be easy getting the best right here on Tigernet/volleyball net!

Looks like we are going to keep the assistant as head coach for this Fall. Probably a good idea. Too late to get a great coach hired likely. Maybe she will do well or a new coach can be hired at the end of Fall when the market is usually busy. I know of a few coaches we should go after.
