A Defensive End will never win the Heisman

Aug 29, 2013, 9:35 PM

Proven tonight the Heisman is an offensive. There's only so much a Defensive end can do. A defensive player who can return punts, make interceptions and who touches the ball on a fairly consitent basis is the only one who has shot at the Heisman.

Clowney is a top 5 pick but E$PN needs to end the Heisman nonsense.

it could happen

but he would need 20+ sacks a handful of forced fumbles, a couple picks and possibly a defense td or two...not to mention theyd need to win atleast 11 games which they can

very very difficult numbers to reach for anyone especially when ur going to be double teamed all season

the clowney we saw tonight though wont come anywhere near that production..he was gassed and on the sideline more than in the game

if teo could get an invite last year a defensive end could at least get an invite as well

i still dont see it happening anytime soon though and the expectations set for clowney by the media and espn before the season started were way too high.. now even a 15 sack season might seem like a disappointment

Yeah, but according to E$PN Clowney was a lock

The hype is abnoxious.

He's a great player but teams will continue to run away from him as they should. If they just lined up and played football Clowney would have about 25 sacks this season but he may only get 9-10 just because of the fact that teams will throw screens around him and avoid his side of the defense. The other guys around him will make plays still but Clowney won't be able to put up the gaudy stats if teams avoid him all together.

Exactly

Not enough opportunity for a defensive end to make enough plays.

Especially with his attitude***

Well a DE is definately not going to win the Heisman if he

spends the entire game on the sideline sucking wind.
