So on Wednesday's I volunteer at Clemson Community Care.

Several of us work in the back part which is the food bank, sorting , packaging and giving away food to those who need it.
Most all of the food is donated either privately or from the local grocery stores (some is purchased with CCC funds).
Well today WalMart donated 347 lbs of bananas. I've never seen that many bananas. Unfortunately, they weren't suitable to give out.
Long story short out of date food and bad produce is given to local goat farms for food. I can only imagine this:
Hope they enjoy!

they was $0.37/lb at Food Lion yesterday.
One food item that hasn't inflation skyrocketed (yet).

Fun Fact:
May 4, 2022, 1:47 PM
|
|
Wal-Mart sells more bananas per unit than any other product in the entire store.
Buddy who used to work in the DC in Casa Grande said there were FOUR different banana staging rooms, all calibrated in humidity and temp for the precise ripeness the bananas needed to be for delivery in 2 days, or 8 days, or 2 weeks, or whatever.

My son worked for a bit at the Publix bakery.

I was surprised to learn that at the end of the night , they require all baked goods to be thrown in the trash. Taking a few cookies or brownies home with you (even if they were destined for the trash) was a fireable offense.
I guess I just sort of figured they would be cool with them not going to waste, either to employees or proactively given to local food banks.

cream donuts. Oops, I'll just take these home so they don't go to waste.
Or a knife fight breaks out in the bakery because two employees both want the "leftover" bear claws.

grapes for the breakrooms during the summer months to help prevent heat stress injuries. It's not unusual for the work environments to exceed 150*F. 100-120*F is almost standard.
When I was raising pigs, I used to take home the extra bananas and feed them. I hauled truckbeds full of 'nanners out of this place all summer long. Piggies loved them.
