getting either Mays or Carman?

I'd still love to believe we would get at LEAST one of them.

How about you just be thankful that this good young man decided to join the Clemson family.

Who says I'm not, besides you? Of course I'm happy he chose us over VT.

However, I'm more interested at the bigger picture, and curious what this means for the rest of spots we have open, as the timing does seem coincidental as we are getting close early enrollment, and, we've been waiting a LONG time for the 3 biggest offensive targets.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Pure speculation, but . . .

Dec 9, 2017, 9:39 PM

Jackson Carman, one of our prime OL targets for a long time, was in Tigertown today on an official visit, and then bang, we get a commitment from McFadden tonight. Don't know what it means, if anything, but it's not unreasonable to think there may be some connection.

What it means is McFadden knows the number of OL our coaches will take in this class and he wants to be in that number! Mays might be an oversign, where you work the numbers.. not sure McFadden would be. To

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

McFadden said he silently committed weeks ago

Dec 10, 2017, 10:04 AM [ in reply to Pure speculation, but . . . ]

We need to take 3 OL in this class.

I think we get Cade Mays. Who will be the third one?

We would certainly take Jackson Carmen no matter what our scholarship numbers looked like.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

It means Ohio State got him

Dec 10, 2017, 9:35 PM [ in reply to Pure speculation, but . . . ]

Carman was a silent commit for a long time, but Ohio State had been telling him our O Linemen don't get drafted. With the decrease in Hyatt's draft stock, he probably decided to go with Ohio State.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

That's exactly what I'm thinking, but no worries.

May 20, 2012, 3:51 AM [ in reply to Anyone thinking with this commitment, it means we're not ]

This is where we "trust our coaches". They wouldn't have offered this kid in the first place if they didn't think he could play for Clemson.

I still think we are going to land Mays. We needed more than one olinemen in this class and with McFadden athleticism I can see him moving to guard with Clemson so not a sign we missing on Mayes. Def still think we get him! If so very happy with the 2 we get with Mayes being crown jewel of the oline.

We will be signing two and possibly three OL. If both Carman and Mays commit we take them both. We should take three OL every year in any case.

Dec 9, 2017, 11:00 PM [ in reply to Anyone thinking with this commitment, it means we're not ]

It’s possible...

But I just don’t think Carman would come all the way down to Clemson to just tell the staff he’s not interested. Why take the official to tell the staff? Could be he changed his mind at the basketball game lol.

Mays...this kid is going to be a tussle....hate UGA has the last visit but hopefully they’ll be in so deep in playoff mode they’ll neglect him.

THE HITS JUST KEEP ON COMING

Dec 9, 2017, 9:28 PM

We are rolling, and who in their right mind could even suggest to a recruit that Clemson is not a dream destination when it comes to the football experience, but also in their life building experience, as well. Wise choice for this young man.

I have a feeling that we are going to be seeing a few more rolling through soon. Stable coaching staff = strong recruiting

Great pick up def a underrated guy, think he will def play way higher than a 3 star. Super athletic for his size he plays bball at dorman too at 6-5 280 that's pretty good. Just needs to work on his strength which def will not be a problem once he gets into our S&C in the spring and summer bc I think he is early enrollee which is huge for a OL like him!! Great under the radar get!!

Re: TNET: Upstate OL flips commitment to Clemson

Dec 9, 2017, 9:50 PM

Agree on all counts, except the "under the radar" part. Anytime a solid verbal commit shows signs of flipping from a supposedly up and coming coach like Fuentes, it is sorta a big deal.

Welcome young man! Does anyone recognize #50 in his Twitter group pic?

I think we miss on Carmen and get Mays. I think we wanted two OL this recruiting season especially with possibility of Hyatt going pro.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Great News!!

Dec 9, 2017, 10:17 PM

Welcome Jordan!!!

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

LOVE IT! This is the difference between Clemson now and 10

Dec 9, 2017, 10:18 PM

years ago. We used to constantly be forced to recruits linemen, particularly OL, that were 250.lbs and needed 2+ years of S&C.

Dude is 6-4 290lbs. He's big enough to play immediately. He will still be repping hard in S&C but we don't have to worry about him growing into a proper sized OL and getting used to that size. Teach him technique and let him work.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

just wondering,is the reason he commited

to Va. tech in the 1st. place because he didn't get an offer from us early being only3*.I know Dabo sez *'s don't matter

Yes. Once the Clemson offer came...

Dec 10, 2017, 10:19 AM [ in reply to just wondering,is the reason he commited ]

It was figured by most in Blacksburg that it was only a matter of time before he flipped. He seemed legitimately torn but in the end, his childhood dream won out. I certainly can't blame him. Had he signed with us, I would have considered it a bonus.

Based on your questions and comments it appears some of you are new to Clemson recruiting.

CU does not machine gun offers hoping a few hit the target. We work our board from top to bottom. McFadden was not offered because we had others higher on the board. He decided to commit to VT to secure a spot. CU had a couple of guys in Georgia who looked promising but decided to go elsewhere so CU offered McFadden. Dabo’s methodology can be frustrating to fans but he never has to pull offers and always acts with intregrity where others cannot same the same thing.

The timing of his announcement had nothing to do with other recruits. VT pulled out all the stops trying to keep him as he is definitely undervalued in terms of ranking.

CU has a good chance to land Mays but unlikely to land Carmen. Both of these guys are over sign worthy so we will take three if they both want to commit.

McFadden is very athletic with great feet. He will likely need a year in the weight room before he contributes as his upper body strength needs to improve. He is very slmilar to former CU and Dorman product Brandon Thomas if you need a comparison.

I am very excited to add McFadden to the 2018class and you should be as well.
