Alabama remains #1, but the new #2 is breathing down their neck. Kansas St. and Florida were the big movers at the top with their impressive conference victories.

Most of the top teams have tough roads ahead.

Someone will have earned their BCS spot if they run the table.
Here are how some of the highly-ranked teams rank in toughest remaining schedule.
Keep in mind, for SEC and Pac-12 teams, this does not include their conference championship game.
2. Southern Cal 3. Mississippi St. 8. Alabama 11. LSU 12. Oregon St. 14. Oklahoma 17. Kansas St. 28. Texas Tech 29. Florida 30. Oregon 59. Notre Dame

Got a SOS boost.

Their SOS will peak at this point, so they might have to beat Tennessee and Arky fairly soundly to maintain that ranking.

So you think SOS should be a smaller component?
Oct 22, 2012, 8:35 AM
|

I've thought about that. But then most people get on me because teams that have played "nobody" are near the top. So I don't really know what people think is "credible" at this point.
I'm not looking for credibility, though. Just posting for fun.

Shouldn't SOS only help you if you actually win those games?

Anyone can lose to a bunch of good teams and beat their chest over SOS. South Carolina has been doing it for years

SOS losses should work in your favor at times

but only in relation to the teams on your level (i.e. if Oregon's only loss is to Southern Cal but Florida loses to Missouri, the loss should assist Oregon more than Florida).
But generally, I agree with you. South Carolina's 2 losses shouldn't be providing a boost over a team like Southern Cal just because their two losses were to high-quality opponents - which is seemingly the case in Prodigal's rankings.

Did Clemson not play Sat.? You have them at 5-1 when we are 6-1. Am I missing something somewhere?

Srs question
Oct 22, 2012, 10:51 AM
|
|
Is your poll designed to be like the BCS in that it appears 'incomplete' until the final week, or is it designed to accurately reflect college football as it stands here in Week 9?

My formula would be just as "incomplete" as the BCS
Oct 22, 2012, 11:16 AM
|
|
Or any other mathematical formula, in that there's still input to be made (5 weeks of football games).
But I think my formula, as well as the BCS, is designed to accurately reflect the team performances thus far.

Okay, I'll elaborate
Oct 22, 2012, 11:40 AM
|
|
Is your poll designed to say, "Texas Tech has displayed the 7th best performance up to Week 9," or is it designed to say, "Texas Tech is the 7th best team in football?"
Or more simply, is your poll a reflection of what has occurred, or a prediction of how the teams will be ranked at the end of the season?
Your previous response seems to indicate the former. I'm just curious what the foundation is for the poll.

To some AP voters and publications, the whole point of each week's poll is to try to be as accurate as possible to the final poll. Athlon basically gauges the success of its pre-season poll by comparing it to the final BCS poll.
Certainly there are countless methods and reasons for filling out a ballot. I understand you're not filling out a ballot, so your objective is probably far different than that of an actual pollster. I just wonder if you put any stock to that idea seeing as you've clearly put a lot of thought into making this poll.
