Old timers question bout football

My old man always talked about skull and cross bone defense. Aka mean SOB's. Guessing the best I've seen from it is Shueey planting Miller a lot in OB. My question is was clemson d like that on every play back in the day? Cause I loved it.

The old school defenses swarmed to the ball.. They took no prisoners. It was a sight to see and I am not really an old timer, but I saw a LOT of film from those days thanks to my Dad.

Our D was awesome from the late 70s through the early 90s.

If that qualifies as being an "old timer", then yep, it was like that. Of course there were ups and downs over the years, but our D hurt people. Teams were afraid of us.

Yes, it was a lot like the Orange Bowl re: hitting by Shuey, but the big difference between then and now is the offenses were totally different. These days a D will never look exactly like the old days, because teams don't run it as much. The closest you'll see if our games with The Citadel and GT this past year.

And we had some pretty fierce D's. We also had a lot of talent!
Our LB's were incredible and deep. It was fun!!!

Slipping I the 93 season when fsu put. 57on us. We are getting back to it but the main difference was teams had to earn what they got on every play.

From 78 through the early 90's, NO ONE wanted to play Clemson's defense. Under Bill Oliver we had the best in the country.Scary thing is that even the teams that beat us invariably lost the next week because they were so banged up.
