NIL coming home to roost (/pun)

Look no further than Kam Pringle.
Here's why I say it:
32 weeks ago this kid goes on IG after what looked to be an official visit to UofSC and flat out tells them to pay up >> "tired of showing what I can get done. What you gone (sic) do for me? ?"
I mean, maybe he WAS talking about something other than NIL dollars ... but I doubt it.
Forget the morality of if all, or whether its about culture, ethos, education, etc., sentimentality, etc.
Whatever it is, UofSC is all in.
In any event, there should be salary caps and therefore mandatory disclosure of all NIL contract terms, no matter how small, no matter which sport.
Hard to say that and not choke but it is what it is.

NIL is a fact of life so no need continuing to talk about it.

The fact that it *is* a fact of life is precisely why it should be discussed. And will continue to be.

We talk about things that are a fact of life constantly.

I see no reason why NIL should be an exception.

yes and as a Carolina grad, I think it's ruining college sports. BUT it's been going on under the table everywhere--I know you don't think your beloved Dabo would not do such a thing and maybe not. However, there are lots of donors that are happy to provide some "resources" to get 5 star recruits, We've lost three of our top players to NIL deals elsewhere and it is sad.
I'm surprised DAbo is still coaching because he said he'd quit if we ever paid players. It's a fact of the game now.

Not ruining - already ruined.

I quit watching the NFL when I realized the whole thing is engineered to siphon as much cash out of me as possible.
(Im a Cowboys fan so it happened right around the time I walked into Jerry World for the first time.)
And now it's starting to feel that way when I walk into DV and watch the $115M HC run down the hill followed by what will be an increasing number of kids who prolly have more disposable income than I do.

And I doubt if you paid a centavo toward Dabo's salary.

Four seats, 50 yard line (well, 47ish) lower bowl, every season.

Paid for in dollars not centavos. But to your point, only those who pay have a right to an opinion/vote? How very medieval of you.

The Supreme Court ruling that players own their NIL virtually eliminates the possibility of imposing a salary cap. If you read Kavanaugh's concurrence it's pretty clear that the schools making so much money while holding player compensation to tuition room and board was a major component of the decision. That view essentially amounts to a rule of reason interpretation of the Sherman Act; the existing policy was illegal because it was unreasonable. The NCAA should have devised a plan to distribute some revenues to the players a long time ago but they were clinging to a many decades old compensation formula. It ended up biting college sports in the butt and may end up destroying college sports.

No, they should have just gotten rid of the revenue.

land a coveted player from another school's ability to land the same player is the size of the NIL package proffered by a school-friendly collective, then the NIL package is functioning less like an endorsement deal and more like an NFL contract.
And at some point, some AD or group of ADs from a have-not, fringe conference like the ACC/B12 will sue for the right to bargain as a collective for players or, cap what can be paid out, to preserve the monstrous revenues needed to support their programs
Its just absolutely broken.
Awesome post - thank you for the reply.***

And BTW, we can match any NIL those clowns can come up with. We honestly must not have wanted him that bad.

Who are all these teams getting elite with NIL? Lemme guess - you're one of these chicken littles who thinks the portal and NIL is building elite programs, even though you can't cite ONE program.

And, are you sober?
I bet you were sitting there going "Pfft. Curt Flood. He's an anomaly," back when all that was going on in MLB.
If youre old enough to know who Curt Flood is then of course you know how he changed everything, forever.
If youre not, I cant help you.
