Maryland, Georgia, Kansas State, Clemson?

Mar 11, 2022, 9:44 AM

If you’re the next up and coming basketball coach which job would you take? I’d probably take Georgia’s SEC money or Maryland’s tradition and DMV recruiting ties over Clemson. K state is probably a push. It might be time for a change, but it’s not gonna be easy to find a person who can push the program to the next level. We’ve only found that guy once in a 100 years of basketball and he left us in the middle of the night for a better job in Austin. I don’t want to be mediocre in basketball either; but it’s gonna take a ##### ton of luck, which we’ve never had in basketball, to find a program changer. I’m not advocating that we retain Brownell just pointing out that it’s not the no-brainer for Neff that many of you think that it is.

Kinda unrelated but not really. I saw where Webber is leaving K State. Hypothetically, would he be a good replacement option for Brownell at Clemson?

Or we could group fund a basketball NIL with the intent of signing one high 4* per year in addition to the normal recruiting class. This would automatically make us a better basketball program with out cycling through coaches.

Group fund an NIL? You guys won’t even give Crump a few dollars.

Finding a replacement and whether they should go with some mid major guy a young up and calmer for capitalize on the money from the football championship and try to get a big name. Sounded very similar to the discussions that happened here. They were talking about the coaches at Xavier and Cleveland state as replacements

A lot of talking about a new coach over the past month or two. We don't even have an opening in the basketball program.

Just pick some random guy off the street- hold this round object in front of him and ask if he knows what it is-
If any thing out of their mouth ends in ball- pay him $200,000 a year for five years-
If he wins - he was best hire around and an overachiever.
If He if wins zero games- you get what you paid for - you had no expectations of winning and you did not blow a wad of money on the guy! Problem solved!

not K State

We should keep Brownell.

Mar 11, 2022, 1:34 PM

Everyone these days thinks the grass is always greener. I personally like Brownell and think he is a nice person and a great ambassador for Clemson.

This is opposed to the type of coach the U of SC hires with anger management issues (Martin, Muschamp, Fogler) or cocky SOBs like Spurrier.

You are trading success for "nice person". If that's your thing, alright then.

Geez, The best teachers, bosses, friends I’ve ever had were tough A wholes who made me a better person. A nice guy doesn’t do crap for a college sports team

Correct

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I don't think you have to be an azzhole to be a successful coach!

That is BS. Dabo is a great guy AND a great coach. You don't have to be an a hole to be a good coach. In fact, I have ZERO respect for a hole coaches. And I can't recall ANY coach at Clemson who was an a hole. I can name several at the U of SC.

exciting teams on occasion, but was terrible against the teams that could handle his press!

It’s funny when people say SEC $ and ignore the fact the B1G

Mar 12, 2022, 10:52 AM

payouts are bigger. It’s kind of like the whole SEC speed spin. Maryland is the better basketball job of those, hands down. Both from a recruiting and basketball fan support.
