I agree. Clemson still has more talent than South Carolina. However, they are making leaps forward by utilizing the portal. They will be much better next year because of the talent they are bringing in. I’m asking if Clemson can make the same claim.

They are only coots because Beamer knew them well as assistant HC at OU - this is a one and done, not a sign of things to come.

That doesn't change the fact that they got a lot better. I'm just wondering if Clemson has done the same. If we don't take advantage of the portal or gone on a recruiting spree, then I don't see how we are any better than last year.

I agree they just made their team better on paper, but at the same time they just got a couple of players who may be a problem for them. There's a reason they transferred.
Let's see how our recruiting class goes this year before we throw in the towel.

I just feel like that's a cheap shot at transfer players. Joe Burrow and Justin Fields were transfers. Not saying Rattler is them, because I don't think he is. But not every transfer player is secretly a cancer to their team. Although, Rattler very well could be. I hope he is. South Carolina fans are so excited right now. It would be hilarious for Rattler to be a cancer on their team.

Not sure why anyone would be so dramatically concerned over Spencer Rattler. Rattler has been seen as a team cancer as well, and there's zero guarantee he will do anything to move the coots' needle. The coots are going to need a lot more than a benched QB to move up the ladder.

We had predominantly an unforeseen QB issue.
There were no obvious needs for any portal players coming into the season, and having one or two in the lineup would not have changed anything.
Regardless, just because we were on top doesn't guarantee you that slot going forward. Think 2017 for us and 2019 for Bama.

Hey, that's fine. But don't come back with this "oh, it's ok to criticize basketball but not football" garbage. On this board football is critiqued when we're going 15-0. Championship coaches are belittled. Players are vilified. There's far more doom and gloom about a football program that has exceeded exponentially every athletic program in school history than basketball.
You have people saying here the program was in decline when we're playing for championships and in the playoffs, and that they've seen it coming for years. Really? So if a basketball team is in the Final 4 every year you think they're in decline? One team may be better than another, but decline? Yet that is a consistent mantra here.
You and a small handful of others are the only ones saying there are "only 2 stars" in the portal and that it couldn't help us. The threads are 10-1 we need to use the portal, yet you and this finite group keep repeating that. That's trolling. It's exactly the same as those who criticize Brad for using it, only it's not a lack of knowledge on your part. It's a way for you to needle football, then fall back on "well what about basketball?"
Taking pot shots is taking pot shots. Don't decry it towards one sport then participate in it towards another. That's the difference between legitimate critique, and trolling.

We had injuries on the Oline early on and we had some young players that will be in the mix. I think the OL will be really good next year. The RB's will be much better too. Our TE's will be better. It comes down to QB and being prepared. So you think we should be looking for a QB in the portal? It seems going with DJ and Cade is the only rational call. I don't see where people think we need something. The last 2 classes have been great. They are all going to be a lot better. The coots need an almost entire team.

Exactly where were we healthy. Our best wide receiver was recovering from major surgery and never looked himself. Our only recruited backup qb was also recovering from surgery and was obviously never 100% as evidenced by the taking himself out of the game when everyone here was screaming that he should be getting more touches. And DJU was clearly limited in his mobility from minute one and ended the season in brace. How about support the team you supposedly are a fan of. If I didn’t think you were just a straight up troll I’d say your feathers were showing.
And, we had twice the freshman and sophomores as a percentage of our roster than at any point since we started the playoff run. A large group of those players were high schoolers when covid hit and had barely played organized football in a year. But anything to bash our coaches and team rather than look at the big picture.

He has talent, but he isn't that groundbreaking. He had 14 catches this season playing for Lincoln Riley. As far as Rattler goes, I think most Sooner fans are thrilled. The coots might have got better, but that's not saying much. The good news is they will be more confident in beating us and their loss will be that much funnier.

That remains to be seen. I hear a lot that Rattler has a Sugar-Honey-Ice-Tea personality and is a locker room cancer. ??????? On paper he’s a good pickup, no doubt. But he may not be the perfect fit for the culture Beamer is trying to build down there. That kinda stuff matters.

I’m hoping he tears them down from within. He’s ultra talented but struggled against Big 12 defenses with Lincoln Riley calling plays. Now he’s about to play legit defenses without a brilliant offensive mind calling his plays.

Yes. On Wednesday Clemson will be instantly better. CK is a huge get. Look at the Dawgs. With all of their new recruits and portal guys, they still do not have an elite QB. As for the chickens, Rattler was a bust at Oklahoma and will be in Columbia too. He may not make it all season because of the chicken o line.

If Rattler has ~ $150K (or maybe going to ~ $800K) in NIL Deals being paid by Cock-in-da-Caboose boosters, then this is GREAT!!!
S.Carolina's money'd boosters are pizza'ing away their money for a mediocre QB will be a pick-machine behind that Swiss-cheese offensive line.

Beamer has no choice. He is in a very similar situation to what Norvell walked into at FSU. He's gotta recruit solid HS players. But, he also can't just wait 3 years for those kids to develop. He needs help, right now. Kids who can come in and start next Fall. His HS kids are basically gonna be his depth. He has to use the portal and use it big now.
He knows he's probably not gonna get any guys who turn into first round picks in the NFL. He just needs to get a big scoop of guys out of the portal that are better than what he has on the roster now. And, he has to take a risk on some of those guys and hope they aren't internal cancers in the lockerroom.

Clemson needs help right now as well. Bama, UGA, and Ohio State recruit better than us and also utilize the portal. It makes no sense to continue to get buried in talent by the other elite teams. And I get it, Dabo said we'll use the portal at some point. I won't believe it until I see it. The sad part is that we are already so far behind. There were so many holes that we could have filled through the portal. But our coach remained stubborn.

If by "terrible" you mean completing 70% of your passes for 4600 yards, 40 TDs, and 12 INTs, then sure. He was "terrible" at Oklahoma.

I remember watching Clemson out recruit them while we were losing 5 in a row. I knew that we would eventually surpass them. Now I get to watch them get a lot better while we remain in neutral. Not sure if that bodes well for us.

at the QB position, but I'm still not convinced he's very good. He couldn't really succeed in Lincoln Riley's system at OU, and then got massively outplayed by a true freshman.
