Dec 24, 2013, 4:27 PM

And we might have won the rivalry game had he not deviated from the run game the last two years.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I hate harping on the SC games

Dec 25, 2013, 12:09 PM

But I completely agree....especially the last 2 years

Our linemen are just about fully developed and we are ready to rock.

And have lost to the coots every year in that time span.

If winning 10 plus requires losing to Chickens then I am all in, it beats 1 and 11.

There's something in these hills.

Frank Howard lost 5 straight to them (with a tie in between)

Dec 24, 2013, 6:50 PM [ in reply to Re: We have been loaded with talent since Chad got here. ]

I guess he was a pretty bad coach too, right?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

....in the ACC

Dec 24, 2013, 6:09 PM

and if I have to explain THAT, then I can't help you.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Yeah, because we don't play anyone good on our schedule

Dec 24, 2013, 6:48 PM

2011:

#21 Auburn
#11 Florida State
#11 Virginia Tech
#14 South Carolina
#5 Virginia Tech
#21 West Virginia

2012:

#25 Auburn
#4 Florida State
#13 South Carolina
#8 LSU

2013:
#5 Georgia
#5 Florida State
#10 South Carolina
#7 Ohio State

Not to mention some of the unranked teams that were pretty good too.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Discounting SC State and the Citadel, we beat 4 teams

Dec 24, 2013, 6:44 PM

that had a winning season.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

If this was 2001-2008...

Dec 24, 2013, 6:50 PM

We would have lost to 2 of those 4 teams

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

That is unknown and unknowable. The fact is, this year

Dec 24, 2013, 6:55 PM

we are patting ourselves on the back for beating 4 winning teams.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Out of the 125 FBS teams, how many can make that same claim?

Dec 24, 2013, 7:01 PM

I say it's a great reason to pat yourself on the back. Winning 10 ball games in any conference is difficult, no matter who your competition is. If it's so easy to win 10 games in the ACC, why does no one other than Clemson and Florida State do it so consistently? Because they're both good teams and deserve to recognized for it.

Plus, when you play a lot of bad teams, it sometimes can make you un-focused. It think it speaks volumes to our mental discipline that we can continue to beat these teams by double digits without slipping along the way because we get too cocky or lazy. That's what my response was about, because back in the day that sort of thing would happen often.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I have seem some rationalizations, but this takes the cake

Dec 24, 2013, 7:09 PM

so we lost to fla state and the chickens cause we played so many wimp teams.

face it, we beat a bunch of bad, bad football teams.

fla state and sc beat us like a rented mule

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Please, by all means, tell me where I said that

Dec 24, 2013, 7:16 PM

My exact quote was "It think it speaks volumes to our mental discipline that we can continue to beat these teams by double digits without slipping along the way because we get too cocky or lazy."

I never said anything about Florida State or South Carolina. I was saying that it's impressive to be able to beat every lesser team you play by double digits without messing up along the way. The arguement a lot of people make is that playing in a conference with a lot of less teams causes you to sometimes not play to your standard because you're not focused. However, Clemson stayed focused and beat them all by double digits. On the flip side, Stanford lost to 2 unranked teams (Utah and USC), Oregon lost to 1 (Arizona), South Carolina lost to 1 (Tennessee) and struggled against others, Ohio State struggled against a few (namely Michigan), Oklahoma State lost to 1 (West Virginia), and the list goes on. Yet Clemson continued to dominate.

And like I said before, if the ACC was so bad why does no one other than Clemson and Florida State consistently win 10 games each year? Like I said, no matter how bad the conference looks it still takes a good team to win 10 games. No matter who it is.

Re: Please, by all means, tell me where I said that

Dec 24, 2013, 7:35 PM

Great Point

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

It's not our fault who we play and how those teams fare.

Dec 24, 2013, 9:36 PM [ in reply to That is unknown and unknowable. The fact is, this year ]

If we win the games we're supposed to win then that's all we can do. There is so much complaining and whining on here about playing teams in the ACC but then they shake in their boots when there is a possibility of playing Bama or Oregon.

So what does our record look like for 2013... 4-2-6* ?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Sorta hard to play teams not on your schedule ... so you

Dec 24, 2013, 8:44 PM [ in reply to Discounting SC State and the Citadel, we beat 4 teams ]

proceed to beat the teams you play by 3,4,5 touchdowns and then you extrapolate that to infer that you'd have won games (by closer scores) against marginal teams with a winning record if you'd faced them.

Why is a 21-17 victory over a 6-win team any better than a 50-14 victory over a 4-win team??

badge-donor-15yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I guess it is Clemson's fault we beat all but 2 on our

Dec 24, 2013, 9:42 PM [ in reply to Discounting SC State and the Citadel, we beat 4 teams ]

Schedule. LOL. Clemson played it's schedule and is 10-2 with a chance to go 11-2.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Oh yes

Dec 25, 2013, 8:17 AM

Tigernet, home of the eternal acc pessimist. ACC is improving, albeit not quickly but some other conferences stock is falling, and depending on this bowl season one of those conferences may be the sec. Don't sleep on the acc this bowl season.

Would you rather of lost to Tennessee and UGA like the coots? We lost to 2 legit top 10's, because we didn't bring our A game. Realize it and move on, we still have a big step to take this year!

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I don't want any false choices. I want the Tigers to be

Dec 25, 2013, 9:59 AM

competitive with any team, any place, any time. I want to go into any game knowing that, even if we lose, it will be down to the wire. We are not there yet. Not even close. Today, I have no confidence as to which Clemson team will show up in Miami. Will it be the team that played LSU, or the team that played W VA? I know what my heart wants, but my head has seen what happens.

Sorry, I can't get excited about beating an 8-4 GA team and 3 ACC teams that had a winning season. I have a gut feel there is still something that needs fixed in our program.

Still hopeful, always faithful.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

ESPN brought back the ACC wheel of destiny this season

Dec 25, 2013, 10:37 AM

I think that pretty much says it all

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

That might not change, but it could (heres why)

Dec 25, 2013, 10:51 AM

#1....DEFENSE.
if guys like Beasley, Crawford, and Anthony return. This could be the best defense we have had in 10 years. I expect the secondary to be a lot better, and that in turn will help the entire defense. Our corners will be young, but a lot more talented. I can see a top 20 defense here in 2014. Defense alone is enough for HUGE optimism.

#2....RUNNING GAME.
Mcdowell did a good job. especially since he had little support after that. But the backs next year should be a lot better lead by Tyhson Dye, JJ McCollough (who I think could surprise some ppl) Wayne Gallman and new comer, Adam Choice. Those are all big physical backs built for a strong running game-which we'll need in 014.

#3....QUARTERBACK.
I'm not saying who ever our QB is in 2014 will have a better year than Boyd did this past year. But ya gotta admit, Kelly and Watson "ARE" made for this offense. And BTW...don't feel too sorry for our receivers next year. Peake,Humphries and Williams should lead a talented group that will do just fine in 2014 ( along with Scott/Kitt/Priester)

So sure, may NOT will 10 games in 2014....but we sure could.

Sorry 4 typos-ugh.

Your SOS always looks worse when you are a good team

Dec 25, 2013, 12:34 PM

Because you can't play yourself. Arkansas got about the same schedule as Alabama but one was weak and one was killer. I sure would rather beat 4 teams with winning records than lose to 4 teams with winning records. Whining about SOS is pointless. At this point in the game it literally changes nothing about the bowl game we play in or how well we will play in it.
