Troy Stellato

Is a natural slot receiver with good speed but better route running skills. Should coaches try him in slot, move Ross to boundary and Ngata to field receiver. This might give the offense that 3rd down receiver that we have been missing.

He's not ready, and it's definitely not just because he's a freshman.

Collins boys both have been there since early January and went through Spring ball. Troy just got there in late June. He’s just behind. Playbook not that easy to learn in a months time.

We have a preponderance of 6'3" guys all wanting to get on

the field, and the coaching staff doesn't seem to want to keep another one of them on the bench to get a Hunter Renfrow type in there. They have earned the right to make those decisions. You (and I) have always had the right to complain about it when the results are not what we want. Ain't Amurica great?

So, Hunter is/was 5’10, 175, Stellato is 6-1, 198, he is definitely a more natural slot than anything else we got, but he ain’t anywhere close to a Renfrow type, nothing about him is like renfrow, his size, skill set, etc. Stellato can go up and muscle balls from defenders, Rendrow was the ultimate tactician, great route runner but not going to out physical anyone, just be where he is supposed to be and when.
All this said, please get Stellato some PT.

He must still be way behind on the play book and knowing his assignments. Otherwise I bet we’d already be seeing him at least a little

So why can't he specifically get 4 plays down if he is talented and play then every other series. Or even back to back plays? I love our staff, I love the love of having alumni coaching because it shows recruits the love of the school! But either the player is ready or not? Dabo threw in Taylor at QB, actually made me mad, as I felt if Chann or Helms were ready, they should have played first.
I think Stellato is going to be a studd! I am seriously concerned about the play calling. Have they hit yhe "That's Easy" button too many times and forgot how hard it is to coach when you don't have a first round QB running the show? I think the coaches are getting exposed more than the players!

I can guarantee you he knows several plays by now for sure. I’m thinking there trying not to have another situation on there hands like Lyn-J Dixon. Regarding Taylor, I agree with you 100%. They should of played them first no doubt about it.

Until DJ finds some touch it really doesn’t matter how they run out there

I don’t think he lacks touch (he clearly does) as much as the game is still too fast for him. I think he’s not confident in his reads quickly enough, so he panics to get the ball into his window before it closes. And even when he zips the ball to the RB on swing passes, he telegraphs the throw before he does.
At times Trevor overcompensated on late reads, too, even though he was developmentally way ahead of DJ. But Trevor only did it on some types of throws; DJ does it on most.

Ngata is a boundary receiver, pure and simple, IMO

Ross is probably more versatile. If you want both guys on the field at the same time, I'd try Ross at the field position. We all remember how he tore it up playing there the final 4-5 games of his freshman season.

Most of Troy Stellato’s catches in his highlight tape are between the hashes. Everyone knows Tony Elliot is allergic to that 1/3 of the field.
