Are we better or worse next year?

Mar 8, 2017, 5:16 PM

We are losing our two best defenders, scorers and rebounders and we're not a good defending, scoring and reboundng team as it is.

Given our level of recruiting, I don't see any of the freshmen being big contributors.

Think we have a hard time getting into the NIT next year.

I think Mitchell, Reed, and Thomas are going to be good.... maybe not enough but they've come along well

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Yes, they have, offensively. We need to get some defenders

Mar 8, 2017, 5:21 PM

and rebounders around them.

think we will be better.

Way worse. Less than 5 conference wins

Mar 8, 2017, 5:37 PM

It'll be a bad team in front of an empty arena if Brownell is kept around. Firing him after next season will be a year too late. Actually, probably two years too late.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

But we'll have 4 in a row over you sleaze bags on the football field

So if I were you I'd worry about that

Boy you guys can be delusional

Mar 8, 2017, 5:50 PM

I'm #### proud of my diploma from Clemson University but that doesn't mean I have to sit here quietly for 7 years watching the same basketball team with the same exact flaws and zero basketball IQ. Maybe you're fine with Clemson never making the NCAA tournament but we've seen absolutely nothing to suggest that Brad has the chops to coach a team well enough to make the dance with the exception of the one he inherited from OP.

Obvious it's my opinion, but I don't see more than 5 conference wins next season. We are losing one of the greatest players in Clemson history and will have zero inside presence. We are losing our best defenders and at the end of the day, Brownell will still be the coach and simply does not have the chops to coach around the offensive talent that the team will have.

Re: Boy you guys can be delusional

Mar 8, 2017, 5:58 PM

I'm glad the football team doesn't take that mentality when we lose a lot of talent.

I also love how you leave out that we are returning the best true point guard we've had since Stitt next year, and Reed who was very good all year. Basketball is won at the guard positions these days (just look at UCONN) so I think next year we will be just fine.

Re: Boy you delusional

Mar 8, 2017, 6:49 PM

Why do you think I mentioned that Hudson may be thinking transfer? Problem with having really good PGs is they need someone to pass it to. Who is that going to be? Devoe & Grantham probably shot about 30% between them this year, so Spencer or the girls coaches kid from Daniel? I hope that Thomas gets a bigger role next year, but right now, some serious developing needs to happen and that is most definitely not a trait of BB

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Boy you delusional

Mar 8, 2017, 7:22 PM

Actually both of them were just above 38% for all FGs this year, DeVoe just didn't hit clutch shots and Grantham got in the biggest slump coming down the stretch.

You'll also be delighted to know DeVoe's shooting has improved each year, but don't let facts get in the way of your hall of fame basketball acumen.

Mar 8, 2017, 5:38 PM

About more of the same. Revert back to previous seasons under Brad. Lose 5 or more NC games. Regroup and are decent in the conference at 9-9, so we finish 16-14 again. Ugh.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Are we better or worse next year?

Mar 8, 2017, 5:55 PM

Worse- no center to rebound as Skara has height, but plays closer to a '3' than a '4 or 5'. Spencer wasted a year of eligibility and I've wondered if he & Hudson might transfer out. Grantham has regressed this season. Can't see the freshmen coming in making a huge impact immediately. Can always wait for "next year".

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Are we better or worse next year?

Mar 8, 2017, 5:59 PM

You know Thomas returns right? He plays center and rebounds.

Also return Mitchell who is the best point guard we've had since Stitt was here, and Reed is our best two guard in a while as well.

We have a good core of 3 players and just need role players around them.

We will be fine, back away from the ledge.

I think overall, better

Mar 8, 2017, 6:01 PM

Thomas and Grantham et al will come together as a unit. I think they should go to Europe this Summer and play. They did that one year and came back playing really well.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

yes, the every four years where you can travel

Mar 9, 2017, 8:04 AM

Is due this summer. When we went to Italy 4 years ago we had Brad's best team with all his players with KJ, so this might help.

Can't see how we're better***

Mar 8, 2017, 6:37 PM

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

here's how

Mar 8, 2017, 6:45 PM

Grantham and DeVoe improve and become consistent scorers and better defenders

Thomas defends better and fouls less

Mitchell gets even better at running what will be 'his' team

Skara and/or one or more of the freshmen contribute in a very positive way in the front court

likely? no, but possible

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

The past is the best predictor of the future

Mar 8, 2017, 6:51 PM

so that means Devoe and Grantham will have zero consistency. Grantham is far and away the most disappointing player on this team. He's been invisible since January.

There's some talent, but no cohesiveness. And the ACC isn't getting easier.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: The past is the best predictor of the future

Mar 8, 2017, 7:00 PM

can't argue with any of that

i think Grantham's regression is one of the major reasons for the disappointing season

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

With all the goose eggs he threw up

Mar 8, 2017, 7:02 PM

maybe he should switch to baseball and pitching. He just vanished

what part of "likely? no, but possible" is unclear to you?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Yes.

Mar 8, 2017, 6:55 PM

The choice is D-Rad's.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Are we better or worse next year?

Mar 8, 2017, 7:05 PM

I see no logical way we're better. Yes we return a talented backcourt, but I think everyone undervalues the importance of losing Blossomgame and Djitte from a physicality and toughness standpoint. As talented as Elijah Thomas is offensively, he has a long way to go rebounding and play defense without picking up silly fouls.
We have three 6'8, 200 pounders coming in next year, which by ACC standards is very small. Dante Grantham is 15 pounds heavier than them. Let that sink in. Any team with any semblance of a post game will punish us next season.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I can't see how you're better

Mar 8, 2017, 7:12 PM

when you lose your top scorer and probably your only big man who can defend and rebound without fouling. Tough to improve given that.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-20yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Maybe we can recruit a really tall goofy white guy who does

Mar 8, 2017, 8:52 PM

nothing well but plays defense really well. As far as I can tell, that is the only ingredient we are missing. A tall goofy center that only plays defense, and white people are good at that.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Is Brownell the coach?

Mar 8, 2017, 7:16 PM

If yes......we will be worse
If no........we will be better
