Watch one of the best blocking performances of all time

Jun 26, 2019, 10:05 PM

Go to the 0:27 mark and watch left guard Chris Dolce pull from the left side and block two Notre Dame players to lead Billy Lott down the field for a touchdown. One of the best option plays in all of Clemson history...a great blocking performance, a great run into the endzone by a Clemson QB, great call by Jim Phillips all at Notre Dame on senior day, avenging a loss to Notre Dame in the Valley two years earlier. Just a great play in Clemson history.

YES, one of the best blocking schemes I ever saw in person!

Jun 26, 2019, 10:38 PM

I mentioned this video a year or two ago on TN for those not in the know.

It was a thing of beauty to see Olinemen (Clemson) go down 2 levels of blocking with some 3 levels to pave a path for Lott.

Oh, my 9 yr old Son & I drove up to South Bend & got to stadium at 5 pm Friday at same time as Danny & Team drove up to scout out stadium. I asked if we could walk thru with them & he said sure.

And next day we waved on a tall pole the 1st 3' x 5' Cotton PAW Flag sold by Johnny Batson Co in Greenville..and flew it from 1977-1992 til retiring it.

I actually remember that flag. Always thought it was neat. If memory serves me correctly, they showed it on tv... might have been another game but thought it was that game.

Don't think it was on TV. I saw it from Littlejohn on CCTV. Remember, this was the 70's, and there were only a few games televised each week. You could go years without being on TV.Fortunately, we had JP,who painted the best word pictures of any announcer EVER !

Thank you for posting this!!

My favorite Jim Phillips call of all time. I was only 4 at the time but they use to re-air a lot of JP’s old calls during the intro segment of the Tiger Tailgate show in the late 90’s early 2000’s.

Clemson doesn't care about basketball....as evidenced by Brown-L getting 14 years.

This was a great blocking performance as well.

they got a nice play. Imagine what would happen if they blocked the opponent

Proud to have been in the booth with Jim.

The game was played on a big screen at Littlejohn. ND press box was terrible in those days. We had a short conversation with Paul Hornung.
