Wasn't there a game under Danny when we didnt warm up in DV?

Oct 30, 2015, 10:32 PM

I think we warmed up on practice field or maybe Daniel high. Is this fact or am I imagining things? If I remember correctly the first time the other team saw us was when we ran down the hill.

I could be wrong but if I remember correctly it was the 1980 South Carolina game because Danny and the team wanted to keep the wearing of Orange pants for the first time a secret until they ran down the hill

1980 they warmed up in white pants in DV field. Changed in locker room before game. I was in high school and sat on hill with my now 84 year old dad.

Orange pants were waiting on players when they returned from warming up. I don't recall a game where Danny had the team warm up outside DV.

Yea both of yall are right and I was wrong and I was there so it was guess on my part...I do remember Willie Underwood dominating that game though with 4 interceptions and 2 taken back for TD's I think it was

Underwood stepped out of bounds around the 20 or so on his first pick, so only the second was a pick 6. The old highlights make it look like both were pick 6's because he continued running through the endzone after he stepped out.

If memory serves me correctly, think it was the 76 chicken game. They had beat us the year before 56-20, passing until the very end. Red Parker did not let the team warm up on the field... again, if memory serves me correctly!

If that was the game we had not scored a TD in the first quarter of any game that year but scored 2 TDs in the first quarter against the team later known as the COOTS.

You are correct. If my memory is correct, Jim Carlen called timeout on their last drive to go up 56-20

The freshman we had on our team that year we got blown out were the foundation of our great teams under Danny and for a short time Charlie Pell. I think Fuller played in that game at W-B as a freshman. Our next visit to the coachroach was Jerry butlers catch.

It was 76 under Red Parker. Warmed up on what was the soccer field north of the stadium, now used as just intramural and parking. I think it freaked out the chickens. A chicken fan from my hometown (arrogant) was heard to scream "Big Deal, they won 3 games" as the game was ending. Payback for unnecessary last minute passing touchdown by Jeff Grantz down at the cockroach the year before. Jim Carlen had his starters still in the game on that last drive, already up 49-20. Only game at Willie B with Clemson I ever went to or intend to go to. Just nasty that day. Anyway, since then we have turned and dominated the overall series and goodness knows I hope we continue the trend this year. Warming up on the soccer field was followed the next year by the silent treatment for Notre Dame and then orange pants in 80 and the rest is history.

My memory is fading because i thought grantz scored on a qb draw with less than 1.5 min to play. In my opinion that game was the beginning of the renewal of T iger dominance of the rivalry. My circle of Tigers were very pizzed off at scar running up the score, and were hopeful that the coaches and team felt the same way. As it turns out, they did. We dominated scar until 2009. We're getting ready to go on another period of domination of the rivalry.

We ran a short full-contact scrimmage before 1976 SCAR game

Oct 31, 2015, 12:02 AM

And it worked.

We came on to the field mean and aggravated and totally ready to play.

It was a brilliant tactic that payed off with an upset in Red Parker's final game.

badge-donor-15yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

we had been a pretty bad first half team that year

Oct 31, 2015, 12:03 AM

he got the first half out of the way before kickoff

badge-donor-20yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Exactly right.....Parker did it because he was frustrated...

Oct 31, 2015, 9:52 AM

that we didn't start to play until the 2nd quarter or 2nd half.

Didn't save Parker's job, though. We got a call early Sunday morning to tell us Parker had been fired.
