It gets the pressure off of them while they try to figure out the new name. They had major sponsors threatening to drop them if the name wasn't changed.

They did the same thing when they changed the Bullets name. Had a local contest where people voted and they ended up with the Wizards. I expect the new name to be equally as dumb.

I agree they sold out their fans. I am done with the NFL. If the the Braves stop the chop I will be done with em too. The Cherokee Indian Nation used to make the Tomahawks so it hurts them as much as anybody. They still may make them.
Open you your eyes people. Look and see what the Bolshevik’s did when the killed the czar and his family. They eliminated names of buildings and got rid of statues so they could rewrite Russia’s history.

Or white liberals....yet again? We all know it's the latter. Most Native Americans I talk to aren't offended by stuff like names and words.
Actually it's the Native Americans who should be the MOST offended in this country. Their voices are drowned out by other groups though.
How about "Washington Crackers?" That would make everyone happy I'm sure.

From the article above:
A University of California Berkeley study, released in February 2020, questioned more than 1,000 people who self-identified as Native American.
The results showed that 49% of respondents agreed or strongly agreed that the name was offensive. That number jumped to 67% for those "frequently engaged in tribal cultural practices."

First you have to believe a poll that says they "self identified" is scientific. Then you have to ask yourself do you really believe your average everyday Native American which, once again IS NOT NATIVE to this country, is offended. Don't you love people that say we stole the land? This land was not stolen land it was conquered land. Every nation EVER built was taken from someone else. You have to believe that un-Native Americans migrated here first that there weren't other people here before then and well, we know that isn't true. So do you think un-Native Americans asked for land or do you think they killed and took the land if they wanted it? I'm SO tired of hypocrites. Slavery has been around since the beginning of time, Native Americans are not native to this country, their land wasn't stolen they were defeated which is how ALL nation were built at one point and this country was built on LIBERTY AND FREEDOM not slavery. Anyone that tells you this country was built on slavery is a race baiting idiotic moron that knows absolutely NOTHING about American history. I don't see how you can be a Democrat and/or Liberal/Leftist and still live in this country that you so fervently hate. This isn't an attack on the comment I'm responding to this comment is just in general. Nothing to do with the actual poster above.

I don't identify as a liberal or conservative myself, and like to think I can be a little of both depending on what the topic is. I must ask though, why do you think liberals hate this country? I'm not saying that I agree with each and every change that "liberals" ask to make, hence why I say that I don't identify either way 100% of the time. However, why do you think a person must hate something simply because they want to change a few things?
Using sports as an example here. I think most, if not all Clemson fans are happy with Dabo as our coach. Does that mean a Clemson fan has to agree with 100% of everything Dabo says or does? Do Clemson fans have to agree with every single game plan, choice of who starts, decision to go for it on 4th down, and every play that's called? If a fan decides to questions any of those things do they suddenly hate Dabo and/or Clemson?
When people wanted slavery to end did they hate America? When people hate living in America when they wanted women to have the right to vote? What about when people wanted an end to segregation?
Why ever change anything in your house? Why paint the walls a different color, or upgrade to a better or different flooring material since you obviously hate your house since you want to make changes to it?
