Estate Sale (Pray for me)
Nov 10, 2022, 10:43 AM
|
|
Guise & Gal, the Greenr family is selling Mom's house, closes in about 11 days (IIRC) and there is stuff left in the house. We are having an estate sale Saturday. We already have inquiries into a few pieces that we posted pics of online. I'm throwing random dollar figures at pieces. I have no clue. I told wifeofGreenr we would take $100 for some cabinet thing that is 100+ years old. WifeofGreenr says a friend at work said it is worth $400-$500. We are all at capacity for keeping stuff, I have a 100+ year old dining room table with buffet and china cabinet already that I have to consider when moving. I don't need anything else.
Brother of Greenr #1 wants to give everything away. His approach is he doesn't want to sell anything. Greenr wants to price to sell, why leave a few thousand on the table, right? Brother of Greenr #2 is just taking what he can, assuming he will sell it later after we all forget about it and not have to split profits.
What to do? Price everything to sell to the people who come and want to rip us off and not give a shid? Price it high and negotiate down? Rent a green dumpster and put it all in there?
I'm ready for all this to be over.
Note to you hoarders, get rid of your sh>it so your kids don't have to get rid of it for you.

How long is your estate sale?
Nov 10, 2022, 10:07 AM
|
|
Original pricing should be to profit. Most of the ones I’ve been to list the times where price drops to 75% then to 50% and so on. That 50% price point should be where you’re pricing to sell, so go from there.

price it a little higher than you want and that gives you the ability to give the buyer a deal and you will still get what you want

Give it to good will write it off on taxes
Nov 10, 2022, 12:11 PM
|
|
if you can sell the table for 100 claim it's worth 400. This is what you said, so that's not a stretch. A $400 write off is very close to 100 cash depending on your tax rate and much easier to deal with.

First $500 is easy. Once you hit $5,000 probably should
Nov 10, 2022, 1:37 PM
|
|
have it valued, gonna be a big ole red flag. In between, good descriptions and details on what it is and how valued. Here's the kicker, you're probably gonna value it at what you could sell it for, so try to sell first, cash is better than tax savings.
Consignment stores that I went to wanted 50% as did someone to come in and do an online estate sale.
Price to sell, donate the rest.
Good luck. We got two houses full of crap so if we pass at the same time, fun time for our sons.

Re: Estate Sale (Pray for me)

My daughter moved to CA after she got married. She had been sharing an apartment for a couple years with some girls she went to school with.
Her husband's apartment is fully furnished, so I rented a storage unit to "store" her 2-year-old bedroom furniture.
Quick calculations...If I'd have moved all her furniture to a dumpster, instead of a storage unit, I could now "re-purchase" her bedroom furniture, new, with the money I've spent on the storage unit...

My dad left his gun collection and 'accessories' to me, who doesn't hunt, nor even target shoot (yet). So, researching how to move up to forty firearms of various calibers, gauges, hand guns, rifles, shotguns, etc., has been a head-spinning education.
Tentatively planning a booth at a show in Columbia next month. For (more) education, am going to one in Columbia (with waders on) this weekend...see what's up.
Now, if any of you ne'er do wells are into firearms and have questions or one you're sourcing, T-Mail me. Here in the Low Country, he was a long-time member at PGC.
Sigh...at least he left a semi-list of what he had, but he always customized long rifles, so I had to fill in details...best I could.
Hard work...I can commiserate Greenr
