Was an ugly win @ Auburn actually a positive for this team?

Sep 5, 2016, 12:50 PM

All offseason long the media has been all over Clemson and DeShaun especially. Fans expectations were at a fever pitch; a lot of fans expected us to blow out Auburn, as evidenced by some of the post-game reactions. DeShaun did not play exceptionally well (I still think he played pretty good overall, just not amazing). Perhaps it was a good thing to keep this team grounded. Dabo's whole schtick last year was to pump the team up like they had something to prove and that the media nor the CFB community on the whole believed in Clemson. Maybe he can play that card again at least up until after @ FSU. I saw a couple Heisman articles that already dropped DeShaun off the lists, which is ridiculous, but could serve as bulletin board material, not that DeShaun needs any external motivation like that but it couldn't hurt.

I think a pretty good Auburn team played about as well as they possibly could. Their defense was amazingly stout and they stuck their heads in every play. I'm one who thinks Dabo is probably very pleased, getting this game out of the way.

I also thought it was an excellent and very gritty win for the Tigers.

I think so. I think it reminds the players that they still

have to play every game, and play it well. If we had smoked Auburn we may have gotten big heads and started to beleive the hype. I say a close win in that environment helps keep us on the ground.

LOTS of lessons to learn in a game like this. Net positive.
