Auburn claims War Eagle is a battle cry and not a

Sep 5, 2017, 8:05 PM

nickname, which is dumb enough in and of itself,, but then there's this:

https://www.bing.com/images/search?view=detailV2&ccid=kOPcBt9W&id=4F6768139C171D4786089B0A123DF74243DBF0D2&thid=OIP.kOPcBt9Weyak85_mgGqpRAEsCe&q=auburn+wareagles&simid=608044470329805727&selectedIndex=32&ajaxhist=0

It sure seems like a nickname or mascot in this portrayal. They are also quick to say Clemson copied this and that, but they have a paw right in the middle of their main intersection of town. Anyway, can the world ever forget them rolling Toomer's Corner when Clemson won its second national title. Maybe they thought it was their tigers that had finally beaten Bama. But no, they are still at 1 1/2 national championships and we are at two.

their fans are hospitable and we share alot of our history together. I don't dislike them at all.
As far as toomers corner I am glad that others shared with us in our national championship, it says alot of about our University, our Team, our coach and the fans.

I have never found them to be hospitable. They ride that SEC

Sep 5, 2017, 8:11 PM

coattails just like the gamecocks and their scores vs Alabama lately have been worse than some of Bama's FCS opponents.

Fortunately we know you're from Alabama so we kind of expect buffoonish statements from their 2 digit IQ inbred residents.

And?

You confirmed it for us.

Aubie is our mascot (Best in the country by the way .... most NCs in the Capital One Mascot Tourney)

"War Eagle" is our battle cry .... "War Eagle fly down the field" Which he literally does every home game LEGIT.

Obviously we have logos with both. War Eagle Go Tigers .... Feels Good man.

You know I read your first thread a week or so ago and thought you might be a half way descent Auburn fan. Most are from my experience . I have good friends that are Auburn fans, now your just bordering on being a d!#$! You must be on a good Labor Day bender and figured you would come on our forum and get us all pissed off about all this insignificant dribble you are spewing all over yourself. It's actually funny to see someone deficate all over themselves from another SEC fan base. Normally we would hear this from a coot and not a fan of a team that has accomplished more than being Alabama's little brother, but I always say ...Give someone enough rope and they will hang themselves. You sir are doing just that. No one here really gives two$#!$ what you have to say when you talk out of both sides of your mouth. At least be intelligent enough to know that Clemson is not the least worried about your team coming into Death Valley and getring exactly what you deserve. I have all the confidence in our teams ability to send you back to the plains with your tails between your legs!

I went to the 2011 and 2012 Auburn games. Fans were plenty nice... no need for us to get too salty. They agreed it was much more fun to play us than "that other team from your state".

There's a chance you're a coot. But if not and you are a real auburn fan, I won't let your big mouth be a representation of your fan base. Cause I went to the auburn game in 2010 and had a blast and met nothing but classy and hospitable people. I have nothing but fond memories while tailgating and watching the game (except for the end). So I'll group you with the Alabama fans and how they act.

Sep 5, 2017, 8:51 PM

any of us is daily about our School & Team.

Notice he earlier in the day said about every Auburn Player was better than most all our star players..whether on O or D..and they had the Nations best kicker to boot..and we would lose by 7-10 pts 4 sure.

Then, in the above post he states Auburn is the "Pretty" Older Sister while Clemson is a xxxxxx younger Sister.

You see..he is firmly convinced Auburn is better..even on our site!

OK, let it ride till WE Meet at the 50 after the game & Roll the TiGER PAW in lovely soft clemson-orange tissue.

Clemson 31 - 24 Auburn

grew up there, '72 auburn high grad..they're mostly correct

Sep 5, 2017, 8:50 PM

war eagle is their battle cry and fight song and their eagle is called tiger, iirc..but they have, since john heisman and before, been the auburn tigers..the only people that ever called them the plainsmen or war eagles were out-of-town sportswriters.

"War Eagle" came from Anderson SC...

Sep 6, 2017, 11:50 AM

My great uncle, John Perry "Rip" Major, was the originator of The War Eagle Cry at Auburn. We are not sure if he was at Clemson and suspended in the march to Pendleton or his older brother was and he followed him to Auburn.

Thanks to Michael Strickland for his hard work researching and publishing this article:

https://www.aufamily.com/…/148746-the-origin-of-war-eagle-…/

Also to Alex McDaniel for tweeting the following article:

http://www.al.com/…/…/11/did_auburn_steal_its_war_eagle.html

Speculation is that is was a motivational cry, similar to a battle cry and not a snap call.

The most telling piece of evidence is the Auburn yearbook, Glomerata from 1912: "The Life And Adventures of War Eagle" - Rip Major D. V. M.

If there is any written documentation connecting another to "War Eagle," we haven't seen it. Additionally this is an Auburn publication produced by his peers.

He came back to Clemson and was an assistant coach when his younger brother, my grandfather, was playing in 1914.
