and have bottle yourself in a corner. Here's how (per the blather yest. on radio):
1) Tiger can't match Jack. You've written him off already, and do I need to play back your radio comments from 6 months and a year ago. He can't match Jack b/c he's "done", messed up, lost it, whatever. Which is of course an acknowledgement of how difficult the task is.
2) But then you say: if he matches Jack, well, he just didn't face the competition like Jack did. There aren't many true champions out there like Jack had against him.
so you've effectively built a hedge around yourself on either side of what happens.
True "Bandwagon Hypocrisy". Choose one, or choose the other, but you can't have both.
And really, all sports figures are always judged by their own era and peers, plain and simple. Otherwise, the Celtics really weren't that great, or Jesse Owens wasn't, or Ty Cobb wasn't, or Secretariat, etc. So you have the false premise of beginning to compare athletes against each other from different times, and not against their own era or peers.
