Wake up, it’s gameday! And why I hate UGA

It’s finally here. We’ve been counting down since the latest cursed Super Dome collapse, and to be honest I have no idea what to expect from either team tonight. After attending only a few games last year with Covid-19, I just can’t wait for a full stadium, marching bands, a top 5 matchup, and all that is college football pageantry. I’ll never take my experiences following Tiger football for granted again.
My hatred of UGA grows deep. My cousin grew up a dawg fan and me a tiger from birth. I was five when the Butler did it, and don’t recall much of that game, but since the next year’s 1985 loss in the valley I vividly remember every game in the series.
The Treadwell kicks gave the tigers an upper hand, the second kick (and safety) are some of my favorite memories in the Valley to this day.
With Clemson taking seemingly control of the rivalry with the 34-3 blistering in 1990, I distinctly remember my dejected cousin grabbing one of those old textile promotional tiger rags, blowing his nose on it and shoving it under the bleachers in the south upper deck and screaming I hate Clemson. That’s what started it all.
Four years later and a ticket in hand for the Eric Zeier beat down in my first trip to Athens, my cousin and I were preparing to head out from my beloved grandmothers house. Just as we were about to leave, when she said in front of me that “I hope UGA wins so my cousin would be happy.” No regard to me and my happiness! Never quite understood that, and have spent years in therapy trying to comprehend some of my old family dynamics. ??
I laugh about it now, and through everything my cousin and I been through since, I’ve learned to not take football as seriously as I did when I was 11. But the Clemson/UGA game is always just a little extra personal.

You!re lucky to have grown up going to Tigers games.
