Wake Forest Memory...What a day

Sep 4, 2020, 9:54 AM

I was 10 years old. It was the slaughter in DV. Halloween Day and my best buddy and I went. My parents took us. We ate fried chicken, lemon bars, and all the Coca-Cola our ten year old bellies could take.
We sat in the upper deck...just the two boys. My folks were in the lower deck. We had a blast. But the highlight of the day was right after the game. My dad's friend had a premium parking space right outside of the locker room. My friend Brad and I got to sit on top of a sweet conversion van and eat hot dogs after the game.
As we sat there a very big very friendly freshman emerged from the locker room. When William Perry shook my hand (as I sat on the van) I noticed that my little 10 year old hand disappeared in his huge paw. He was so polite and kind and his smile was as huge as his hand.
Dad's friend offered him a hot dog and The Fridge politely declined. I was disappointed because I wanted to see how many he could eat!

That day was just perfect. Just a few months ago my old friend Brad passed away after a long battle with a helluva disease. He was a huge Alabama fan and we traded barbs on Facebook up until he passed. Football gives us these great memories.

Let's get this thing going!!

I was closer to 18 years old. A year younger than perry. Before that year he went to games with our family (aiken, of course). And he ate a lot of chicken and drew a lot of attention. Good times.

I remember when the Fridge ran after the WF punter and chased him all over the field. The poor guy couldn't get away from Fridge.

I was a sophomore that season. Delivered pizzas for Pizza Hut. The Fridge would order a medium supreme About once a week to be delivered to the old marriage housing where he lived. I remember a big piano in the living room. Pizza cost $9.95. Fridge would pay with a Ten dollar bill and wait on his nickel change. Never gave me a tip.

Sorry for the passing of your friend Brad. That is tough. Good memories though and that is important.

I had the honor to sit behind the Fridge in a class and I was darn near invisible that semester.

I was 27 and went to the game with 3 buddies and one who....

almost got thrown out for bringing 3 mini bottles in with him. I had to go to the bathroom about the middle of the second quarter (we drank way too much before the game) and I missed 2 Clemson touchdowns. I never met William Perry (did meet his brother) but what an athlete. He could dunk a basketball at 335#!
