out of the schools coming into the ACC by 2014 there are only 4 of 16 who haven't made the final four...Miami could take care of that this yr with a great run.
In fact we are tied for 13th with 10 NCAA tournament appearances with no final four berth. BC has 18 tournament appearances with no final four berth.
Yes we've had success here and there but to pull the plug on Brad would be assinine. Brad could get us to appearing in the tournament 2 times in 5 yrs. Improvement. It's not like we have some great success to build upon.

Brad Brownell is a very good coach but no matter how good he is, he can't put it in the basket for them.
No matter how solid the game plan, it is likely going to be unsuccessful if the players don't execute.

So which recruiting class do you take exception to? The 2010 glass that was already done when he took over? The 2011 class that signed LOIs less than 6 months after he took the job? Or the 2012 class? What exactly are you expecting to see from freshman? Do Roper and Filer really seem like bad recruits to you? How about McDaniels? Coleman and Blossomgame - arguably his two biggest recruits are out injured. The problem is fans that abandon the team before its ever really had a chance - making it a self-fulfilling prophecy. Barnes was hyped because of the "Slab 5" but he inherited a team with a slew of veteran players who were recruited by our most successful basketball coach ever. Purnell may have inherited a team that was not producing Ws, but Shyatt never gave up and didn't leave Purnell with the kind of mess he (Purnell) left Brownell with. He clearly quit long before he let the school know and it created the vacuum that Brownell is fighting through now (2 seniors 0 juniors is entirely on Purnell.

Barnes did not inherit a good team of good players

he had one good recruiting class with McIntyre and Buckner leading the way that got us to the Sweet 16. I agree with you that recruiting is good to take a while. We simply don't have a lot to sell to kids outside of playing in the ACC and Brad's vision.

I stand corrected that Buckner wasn't recruited by Barnes - but he was not in the same class as McIntyre. Buckner was 1994. McIntyre came in with Jamison, Wideman, Christie, Jurkunas and some others in 1995.

if you judge them based on the now before they can develop, then you really need to shut up and never talk about basketball again, cause you're clueless as they come

you can see the game is still moving too fast for the kids

but the state of our program is they have to play significant minutes. Next yr the game will be slower...their decision making will be better...the shot will be more confident.

to football recruiting...board is going nuts all day...however basketball really only gets buzzing on here when we lose....if it's not buzzing on here all the time we are going to have a tough time getting the kids. Of course some people would say Barnes got the kids here which created the buzz...buzz didn't come first. Probably right but this is what I don't get....in football we recognize you've got to get those players to win big time. We know it. It's the same in basketball. Coaches can't make up for lack of natural ability. They can't.....if a kid can't make the shot consistently with a guy in his face and the shot clock ticking down a coach is limited. We've got to let these players grow up with another class behind them.

great point...as a coach you can't dictate the outcome

all you can do is prepare your players to the best of your ability and hope when they are in situation they react well. A game has a flow to it...it's not directed from the coach. Natural ability plays an important part here.
