Rona and Vitamin D

May 5, 2021, 8:44 AM

One thing that all people have in common who have died from covid or have been really sick is very low Vitamin D.

I wonder if low Vitamin D may also cause overreaction to the vaccine. If you have time prior to the shots, spend some time in the sun without sunscreen, or take the supplement pills.

I have been taking supplements for the last year. Did not have any reaction to either shot. (Pfizer)However, I am old and as such my demographic has generally been spared harsh reaction.

Low risk, high reward proposition. Give Rona the D.

Bonus - having normal Vitamin D levels prevents a myriad of health issues and has been shown to reduce the incidence of several common cancers.

All people who have died or gotten really sick?

How you know this? Why don't I know this? Who's keeping this a secret? Why not just encourage vitamin D instead of a vax?

Pro tip: if you rely on the news, you're not gonna hear it

May 5, 2021, 10:21 AM

and main reason why is that due to the PC climate, they cannot tell you the truth. The truth is racist. The truth is bigoted. The truth is "not fair". You have to read between the lines of medical data, charts and narratives to see the truth, and then make decisions yourself.

Fact 1: COVID affects the already immune-deficient than it does healthy people. Can the media state that without offending? Yeah, for the most part they are able to say this, as it is so very obvious.

Fact 2: COVID affects the elderly more than the young (existing baseline health reasons and body's ability to naturally fight/heal). Can the CNN state that without offending? Yeah, for the most part they are able to say this, as it is also so very obvious to everyone with the retirement homes care units. Unavoidable.

Fact 3: COVID affects the diabetic and obese MUCH more than the non-obese. Can NBC News report this without offending the easily-offended? No, they cannot. Do you ever hear the percentages of obese vs non-obese? Rarely, if ever.

Charts like this should be everywhere. yet they are not.

Fact 4: COVID affects the Vitamin D deficient MUCH more than those with healthy levels. Who is Vitamin D deficient? Well, here's a direct quote from Mayo Clinic: "People get vitamin D from food and sunlight. Some people have a higher risk of not getting enough vitamin D, especially those with dark skin and adults over 65." Can CBS News report this with offending the easily-offended? No, they cannot. Ooohh...dark skin. Trigger word. Racist! OMG, we are dealing with a bigoted disease!

Another chart you never see on the nightly news:

Bottom line - if you are not diabetic, not obese, and have sufficient Vitamin D, you are in the lightning-strike category of being severely stricken by COVID-19. Too bad the news doesn't tell the public that EVERY SINGLE DAY.

Cotdang Scooter.

May 5, 2021, 11:08 AM

The news won't tell me to not be vitamin D deficient because racist, bigoted, unfair, offensive? That statement has more reach than Randy Moss in his prime.

Quite a hole ya got your head in there, son.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

why do you suppose they don't then?

May 5, 2021, 11:16 AM

I only half pay attention to what's going on out there but I have come to know the trigger words acutely.

When I see a Jeopardy contestant being accused of being racist because he celebrated his third win by holding up 3 fingers to the camera, it doesn't take a whole lot of stretching to come to the conclusion that EVERYTHING is potentially racist to a whole bunch of crouching, angry-eyed folk out there.

half-truths and/or speaking of medical issues in absolutes.

"One thing that all people have in common who have died from covid or have been really sick is very low Vitamin D."

That is not even remotely true.

Some studies have shown that having low Vit D levels can increase the chance for upper respiratory infections.

It is certainly known that Vit D is important to one's immune system. I learned that when in the hospital after having a kidney removed due to cancer. Vit D level was very low and doc put me on supplements.

co-morbidity factors, those who died or where hospitalized were also Vitamin D deficient. The low D levels contribute to the incidence of cytokine storms that caused people to crater.

Hence, Fauci highly recommended people take Vitamin D supplements as well a C.
