B1G Has Vetted 10 Schools

I apologize if this can't be opened. Not good with technology. In a nutshell, 10 schools vetted, including UVa, UNC, Duke and Miami, but not Clemson or FSU

I mean. Big 10 is great, but that’s just way too much travel for the fans that actually travel. I never have excepted to cola, but I definitely get how many would be up set. Let’s be real….sec opponents would provide for better tv.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I don't want the BIG, either.

Jun 7, 2023, 11:09 PM [ in reply to Re: B1G Has Vetted 10 Schools ]

Anyone else not interested in late October or November games in Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota, or Iowa?

The ACC is going to be toast in a few years.

If Miami, Duke, UVa, Miami, and Tech go to the BIG, we'd only need two other schools besides FSU and Clemson to jump to the SEC to dissolve the ACC and the stupid GOR.

Va Tech and either Pitt or Louisville would jump at the chance to not be the ones left standing alone in that game of musical chairs.

Syracuse, Wake, NCSU, and BC are going to be looking at the AAC in that scenario.

Although I’d prefer the SEC, it would be better to have as many strong conference options (I.e., 2) as possible.

It may well be that we are down to one option.

If existing SEC schools have a vote on which schools get picked for being invited into the SEC, I could envision UGA, AUB, and S.Carolina saying no.

Maybe also FL and TN. Both have been mediocre for > 5 years, and Clemson’s recruiting success makes it likely that we will eclipse both of these programs for a while longer.

(Yes, I remember that TN and S.Carolina beat us last year.)

My guess is that Clemson and FSU are not "being" vetted at this time because they already have previously "been" vetted. Im not sure the accreditation thing is an issue. They already have 1 or 2 members that do not have it.

Only Nebraska is not an AAU school, and they were when they entered the conference. (I believe they lost that accreditation when the medical school was separated from the university system.) Every other Big-10 school is.

It said Pushkar Chivette... pronounced "Push car Chevette". Because if you ever knew anyone who owned a Chevette, they probably ended up pushing it at some time. You aren't paying attention to the SEC are you? You think Clemson, if we join the SEC, is just going to walk in and own the conference? Did you see Tennessee last year? They were almost unstoppable. South Carolina beat them, because they played a near flawless game, but Tennessee would have destroyed us last year. South Carolina beat us last year. Almost all of the SEC teams are either powerhouses or on their way to being. I don't think the SEC is going to be as easy as some of you think.

I dont think think there is a person here that thinks the SEC would be easy. It would be challenging and conference title wins would be few if any. But money would be great, games would be great, travel distances would be great, good old southern football atmospheres would be great and I could list more. Nobody that I have seen has ever said it would be easy

"Almost all of the SEC teams are either powerhouses or on their way to being."

That is crazy. 30 years in the SEC has done South Carolina and Arkansas no good at all. Are Missouri and TAMU in some way better now than before they joined the SEC? Has Ole Miss or Miss State
done anything notable in your lifetime? Does KY actually play football or do they just celebrate the LSU, Georgia, Florida or Alabama titles as if they belonged to KY? Tennessee has as many Natty's in the last 50 years as Georgia Tech or Pitt.

Gamecock envy from Clemson fans drives me mad. Geez. Who would want to join up with a league that took SC, Arkansas and Missouri?

The new Veterinarian School will be a big piece of Clemson receiving the AAU Credentialing the B1G supposedly says they require.

I still think Clemson will ultimately be B1G bound, along w/ a chunk of existing ACC members once this smoke clears. Thanks to the entire Clemson leadership team (Pres, BOT, AD, IPTAY, Dabo and Staff, our Fan Base, overall athletic and academic success), Clemson is now the 800 lb Gorilla in the room that everyone now wants.

I’ll happily “eat my hat” if I’m wrong but, give this some time and you will see how things continue to advance in the direction I’m prognosticating

I think negotiations are pretty far along. IF we’re in another conference by 2027 as David Hood says may be the case, than it’s safe to assume it’s a done deal. We just have to finish dotting the i’s and crossing the t’s with legal work.

Re: B1G Has Vetted 10 Schools

I really don't know that the B1G wants to go beyond sixteen, but if they do, I would think they would start by solidifying the west with Oregon and Washington.

North Carolina and Virginia seem like the most obvious choices from the ACC. I don't get Duke or Miami being there at all - being smaller private schools. Georgia Tech could be a +1, I suppose.

I really don't see Clemson or FSU going anywhere, any time soon. For one, the SEC doesn't necessarily want us. They haven't gotten any more money for adding Texas and Oklahoma (yet). There is no reason for ESPN (which has the exclusive deals with the ACC and SEC) would want to weaken the ACC and pay us more!

Re: B1G Has Vetted 10 Schools

Jun 7, 2023, 2:24 PM

I have seen all the comments about preferring SEC to Big. But think about it. If Big gets enough schools there will be a southern division and most of our games will be against teams in NC, Va and Ga, as it is now. I could see a southern division with CU, GT, NC, NCSU, Va, VT, possibly UM and outside chance Duke. That is 8 or so teams. I will trade going to Penn State for going to BC, and I will trade going to Syracuse to going to Ohio State or Minnesota every few years. They would probably move Md over to our group as well (yes College Park on a game day is horrible). My point is in the long run the travel might not be nearly as bad as it first seems. Might even get to play a kickoff classic in Indy or the domes in Mich or Minn and likely in the future in Chicargo. Yes I put the r in there. Academically no question Big better than SEC. I think CU has lots of Big grads on faculty fwiw vs SEC. Is it better to be associated with LSU and GA and Tn (corn dogs and beer ain't bad, do't get me wrong) or be associated with Penn State, Iowa, etc.? I think we may have a built in advantage when we do play those teams at home as they might in late season games there but over time that goes away. Considering the $EC is all about money and lots of it under the table there are advantages to being in the Big. Baseball, certainly. Basketball, probably doesn't matter a lot. Soccer, probably fine. Softball, probably good. Longterm there are going to be issues in the SEC after they expand. Just wait until Texas starts trying to throw their weight around. Just saying maybe we should think very hard about a Big invite. Were I on the BOT I would consider it very seriously. Someone with more spare time than me can do the calcs on driving distance to all the schools versus what we have now. I bet overall it is not a lot more.
